Revolver Newbe needs help

My dad sold his Rugers and all his loading and casting equipment years ago. Now that I shoot handguns and reload he has decided he wants another wheel gun. My dad doesn't know anything about computers so its up to me to research info, so I have a couple questions for you guys. He has narrowed it down to a Ruger Bisley 45lc and 45acp would be nice (convertible).

How much will the new vaquero frame handle? (I've heard some break with full loads)
Does the vaquero come in a bisley convertible? (45lc/45acp)
What models come with a case hardend finish?

As for the loads, if the gun you get has a 3 digit serial number prefix, stay away from the "Ruger Only" section of the loading manuals.

The Bisley convertible 45 is a sweet gun. The Vaqueros with a 3 digit prefix are built on the mid-sized frame,,, whereas the 2 digit prefix Vaqueros are built on the same full sized frame as the Blackhawks.
The case hardened finish was just a coloring that was dropped due to it's lack of longlivity.

Did Ruger ever offer a vaquero bisley convertible in 45lc/acp? I don't see one in current production. Is it possible to have a blackhawk cylinder fitted to a vaquero?

Not the original Vaquero. (The 2 digit prefix ones.)
As for fitting a cylinder to one,, it's done quite often. Get a Vaquero, & find a spare 45 ACP cylinder. ($100-$125 average. Two sold recently here in our classifieds.) You have to measure the OAL to find a good fit. Ideally, one that is the same OAL or a few thousands over & fit it.
And if you have a hard time finding a Vaquero with a Bisley gripframe, you can buy the Bisley parts & convert one.

Don't be afraid of the 3 digit guns unless you really want to shoot the heavy loads. To me, they feel better in the hand with the original XR3 all steel grip frames, and just seem to be put together with more attention to detail and finished off better than the others. At least this is the impression I get with the ones I own. They really are neat guns.
