This has been an interesting show this weekend. I have made some good buys and spent a little more money than normal. Today, I picked up a retirement project gift for myself. Something for me to personalize for a planned Alaska hunt early in my retirement.

The game I have in mind is Moose and big bears. I have been sorta looking for something to fit the bill that is most the way there, just needing finishing touches. I really wanted a #1H, but thought of fast follow-up shots and opted for something on a bolt action. Today I found an Interarms Whitworth Express in 375 H&H Magnum. It is one big gun, but beautiful. It is wearing a Leupold VX-II 3x9x40 scope on Burris mounts. I would like to change that up to tip-off mounts and a 1x4 compact scope, so as to take advantage of the Express sights, if needed. For the rifle, scope and 46 rounds of factory ammo, I paid $700. A bargain in anyones book....... Can't wait to get started on this project! :D

thats cool! we have an Interarms Mk X in 7x57 and a 7mm rem mag. good shooters for sure! that 375 Hurt & Hurt oughta be fun!

Dave, very nice! That should sport a very nice Mauser action -

Regarding the scope, I picked up a nice Ruger RSM in .375 H&H that had made one trip to Africa (not my trip unfortunately, but got the gun at a good price...). It came with a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4x with 30mm tube. I haven't hunted with the scope, but using it at the range shows me it would be a very nice hunting scope with the advantage of a nice red dot to go along with the standard reticle, and very generous eye relief. You may wish to look at one of those for your rifle.

Well, I finally selected a scope. I mounted a Leupold VX3 2.5x8x36 matte with duplex cross hairs on the Whitworth. Went to the range with WAYNO the other night and I was extremely happy and surprised at it's accuracy and very, very manageable recoil. I am happy and look forward to hunting with this fine rifle in the future. Heck, I may even use it for Elk this coming season.....!

Nice score...it would make a fine elk rifle...many people don't know that a .338 win mag has more recoil than a .375..Alaska is waiting for you, good luck

I agree with you. The .338 DOES recoil more.... :D And, I manage that caliber just fine, so the 375 will work great for me. Now to work up some handloads.....
