Remlin vs. Ruger Trapper 45-70?

I bought a Remington built Marlin Trapper in 45-70 about a month ago for what I assumed was a decent price. I was willing anyways. Today I was offered a Ruger built Marlin Trapper for $1199. Damnit, do I need two of them?

A new Trapper turned my head a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. They were asking $1700 for it so based on that price $1200 is a steal.

1200 is a Very Good price, I have been looking and 1500 seems to be the best currently.

I went with the SBL, should be here by next weekend.

I haven't seen one yet but it appears that Ruger may have saved the Marlin name.

Not a Ruger, and not a .45-70. But relevant, as I do hope Ruger will start turning out any and all Marlin lever guns!

I just bought a Marlin Trapper for $1200+tax at Academy in Hammond, LA.
It takes the same Piccatinny rail as the SBL model that you have to order off the ShopRuger.com website.
Apparently the scope bases for the older Marlins/Remlins don't fit the newer Ruger/Marlins.

Do you need both ? NOPE!
Would it be beneficial to do side by side testing? YUP!
If you don't buy um and try um you will always wonder about the one that got away.
Plus you will have NO trouble selling the loser and maybe even make a few bucks..

I let that one go but recently added a JM 1895G with the 18.5” ported barrel.

I have handled several and all have been flawless.

$1700 is what 3 of those rifles should cost. Ruger is getting out of control

Had a real Marlin CAS model 1895 26 ,in octagon color case receiver. I sold It recently. That thing pounded the heck out of me. Oh it shot really well. Because someone offered me so much I sold my no safety 444 Marlin too. Both were pretty much as new. I have sold most of my big boomers. even the Win 71 deluxe. All nice to have all were just not the fun guns they used to be. I was glad to sell the Barrett though...needed a gun bearer. Only Marlin left is a 336 in 35 Rem. The "new" Marlins are way overpriced

I still have my fathers old 1952 Marlin 336SC in 35 Rem, will pass it on to my son and grandson some day. I also have a couple other Marlins in 45-70 a standard 1895, a 1895 Cowboy and a first year Guide Gun. The Cowboy with that lightweight 26" barrel kicks the worst. My favorite Marlin is a 336 Cowboy in 38-55
