A family tradition is a trip to Reelfoot Lake in the days between Christmas and New Year's Day. We, my wife, sister, niece an I, left Memphis at 6:00 am yesterday morning. When we left the temperature in Memphis was 24 degrees, according to the thermometer in the Jeep. When we arrived at Reelfoot, it dipped to 13 degrees with a pleasant Arctic breeze wafting across the lake.

The "breeze" whipped up a spray and created these ice sculptures:

We ate at a restaurant called Lakeview Diner, also a tradition, of catfish. Included is cole slaw, pinto beans, onion rings, hush puppies, twice baked potato, and apples.

Highlight of our trip was the spotting of 24 bald eagles, including this pair:

We make this a one-day trip, so we returned home tired but elated!

Went down there to fish a few years back. Once we discovered the Lakeview diner, I think we spent more time in the restaurant than we did in the boat.
Nice trip.

"13 degrees with a pleasant Arctic breeze wafting across the lake" Is a little below my 'comfort zone'. I'm old and can stay in my comfort zone if I choose too!!!

Well, sometimes I do like to get out of my "comfort zone" and feel the sting of icy cold air against my face and feel the backs of my fingers sort of sting from the bitter cold wind. Maybe even feel the crunch of snow under my boots.

Makes a warm fire or heater feel all the more welcome while cradling a steaming mug of coffee between your palms. Or propping your sock-clad feet up in front of a heater. And bacon frying in the pan with scrambled eggs and toast.

Extremes, getting out of your comfort zone, make little things all the more pleasant!

Thanks for sharing, Bob. Yep, working in Barrow, Alaska during the winter was all about pushing the comfort zone. Now, our cold weather is like summer in the Arctic! Of course, we take our comfort zone with us in the car. Mine has seat warmers too.
