Redhawk 44 Mag Value

Hi all

This is my first post here. I am fairly new to Ruger guns.
I have a 22lr single six, a 22lr Mark II, and a SP101 38 spec.
I have the opportunity to pick up a Stainless Steel Redhawk 44 mag
with a 7-1/2 ported barrel. It has the wood stocks on it, and the gun and
stocks are in excellent condition. The serial number is 500-27xxx.
He is asking $400.00 OTD. Is this a fair price?

If you like ported barrels...then yes. If not, like myself...I would pass.

I'd buy it in a heart beat for $400. Then cut the barrel to 5" or so and have an almost perfect double action carry gun.

On Gun Broker they are in the $600 to $700 range. Someone probably payed another $150 to $200 to have it ported.

The last Super RedHawk I bought had been worked on by Wilson Combat, and it was MagnaPorted by them. I sold it to a buddy who just loves it.

With it ported you will need to have on hearing protection for every shot, it will be loud. If you always shoot with hearing potection, you will love it.

Sounds like an excellent value for that gun, especially if you like a ported barrel. I don't like the ported barrel, and for that price I would turn it into a project gun with shorter barrel.

Welcome to the Forum!
To many folks the porting takes away from the gun. It's design is to reduce muzzle flip,, but the trade off is additional noise. But at $400 you can consider it a fair deal. If the noise is an issue,, then as noted,, it can be cut off & made into a easier packing gun. But the originality of it has been ruined,, so while it's an earlier production gun, there is zero collector interest.

$400 would be super cheap IF they hadn't butchered the barrel. The porting kills it for me.

I recently sold one locally (near mint ~ no box) for $625.00.

I wouldn't pay $400 for it and then throw more money at it to get rid of the porting. If I was gonna spend more than $400 I'd just wait for what I want. Unless of course you want one ported.

I already have a 7-1/2" Redhawk in .44 Mg. and I would like to have a ported one to test the difference in actual recoil. 8)

Whether you keep it as/is, cut to 5"....yeah, that's a really good deal. If I were you I would buy it now and decide what to do with it later. If for some reason you don't want it I'm positive you get your money back by selling it here.

I sold a 7 1/2" Stainless 44 mag Redhawk was magnaported. with leupold scope, factory rings, 3 sets of grips and original box for $625 For what its worth, I felt the magnaporting on the 7 1/2" gun was a benefit. Shorter barreled ported guns not so much. Buy the gun for that price, shoot it, and determine for yourself if the porting is a negative. If you dont like it, cut it or sell it for what you paid.
