Reddot powder

I'm a .44 guy. Burn chart says it is relatively fast. Consistent but a tad dirty for me...so for lite loads I use Trail Boss.

Hi,

Dunno how much Red Dot I loaded in shotshells ( but it was a LOT!) but never tried it in any handgun cartridges. I moved on to other shotshell powders, so don't even have any RD to try...

A buddy, though, still had plenty of it left when he put his trap gun in the safe and brought out his Model 39 Smiff. Even at 100 yds, w/ a starting load of RD and a 125 gr cast bullet, he's deadly enough on cans w/ that 9mm to know it's a little more than pure luck...

Red Dot's pretty "fast" but the old version was still pretty dirty. Dunno how the newer "cleaner burning" variety lives up to its promise.

I use Red Dot in 44 mag, 45 Colt, 45 ACP, and .308, cast bullets in all. For general shooting its wonderful. My 45 Colt Anaconda loves it and it's like a laser beam. My 45 Colt Redhawk doesn't though.

For heavy loads, I stick with H110. Don't really shoot any jacketed, so I don't know how it does with that stuff.

Like Slim, it seems like I am using Red Dot in everything these days. Not just shotshells, but .45 ACP, .44 Spl., and a host of others. That may have something to do with the fact I have several pounds of it in my magazine.

I've only used it in .45ACP but have gone through more than 4lbs of it so far.
I haven't noticed it being any dirtier than other powders & it produces economic & accurate loads behind a 200gr LSWC.

.45 Colt

I like 6.5g of Red Dot behind a 250g RNFP. A popper at 881fps...
Also found 7.0g of Red Dot under 255g SWC was accurate for 948fps. YMMV.... Do you own research...

I happened into about 20 lb of Red Dot for free. I was going to use it up on .45 ACP for the subgun, but I find myself shooting that a lot less than I thought I would. I think I need to start working on loads for other calibers, or this powder is going to outlive me like it did the other guy!!

RED DOT has a clone called PROMO. Different in bulk; same in weight for your loads. $95 +/- for an eight pound keg. I used the last of said eight pound keg awhile back and will replace it after recovering financially from a really nice trip to Montana for the Quigley rifle shoot.
