Red Dot for Mark 111 22/45

I too have a Mk III 22/45. I have a cheap red dot I have tried. I thought my old eyes needed it. What I found was that at 10 meters, where I usually shoot, the dot moved around so much I couldn't use it. However, when I tried it rested at 25 meters, I can shoot much better with it. I took it back off, since that isn't my usual range. I have noticed that the fiber optic front sight on my 22/45 (Hunter) helps a lot compared to my other Ruger .22 with regular iron sights. My eyes are almost 64 years young.
I can see where it would be great if I had a steady enough hold, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Be aware that most cheap red dots have a 5 MOA dot, which means 5" at 100 yards, or about 1.25" at 25 yards. This pretty much covers the bullseye, or the whole target if the target is small enough. Hard to get real precise.
You can get 3 MOA dots pretty commonly today, and even smaller ones on expensive scopes, but they get hard to see.
I'm currently trying out a Millett SP-2 with a 5 MOA dot, and honestly am not all that impressed. This coming weekend will be its make or break test. If I can't shoot better with it than with open sights at 25 yards it's not worth the $70 to me.
Over on RFC (www.rimfirecentral.com) a lot of folks are singing the praises of the UltraDot scopes, but those run about $200, from what I've seen.

I use this sight on my 22/45 (and a S&W M&P 15-22)
It has a multi reticule with a 3 moa dot amongst other reticules.
Shoots minute of soda can @ 25 yds for me.

Just out of curiosity, how are those reflex/holographic sights ("tubeless" red dots) in the sunshine? Does the dot fade any worse than a regular red dot? That was my concern; I like the look of those, and they're getting more popular, but I figured without a tube it would wash out pretty easily.

I also have an NCstar reflex/holo sight on one of my custom airguns (bottom right) and it performs just as well in the sun.
I can plink off milk jug lids @ 25 yards all day with the cheapo NCStar on my airgun. I'd say you could expect similar performance out of one.

I took the 15-22 outside and took some pics into the evening sun.
The Walther sight is set to co-witness through the rear aperture and with the front sight post.

You may want to look at the Millett SP1. 3MOA RedDot. I have one on my MKIII Target and Like it very much...

Yeah, that's weird. The SP-1 has a smaller dot (3 MOA), but also a smaller tube (25mm?). The SP-2 has a 30mm tube, but a 5 MOA dot. A larger tube will allow more light in for a brighter sight picture. Not like they're trying to make it an easy choice or anything...

MOA (minute of arc or minute of angle) is approximately one inch at 100 yards.
So using this general number, a 5 MOA dot will cover approximately 5 inches at 100 yards, about 3-1/2 inches at 50 yards, and around 1-3/4 inches at 25 yards.
A 3 MOA dot will cover about 3 inches at 100 yards, 1-1/2 inches at 50 yards and 3/4 of an inch at 25 yards.

Smallest Dot is 3 MOA. There is also another scope model with all the same features expect it is only one color (RED). it was about $10 less than what I paid which was $109......I use the Green indoor and Red outdoor particularly if bright.
