Red dot for M-44

Hey guys, I’m glad to be here and this is my first post besides my introduction post.
I have a ‘66 .M44 carbine and looking to put a Burris Fastfire 3 on it. Having a little difficulty in figuring out what mounts to purchase. any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks

What sort of base do you have? There are several weaver/picatinny style mounts that interface with the FF3.

Sorry Mobuck just saw this. the Burris Fastfire III was delivered today and I mounted it. I got the weaver 68 and 47 bases and the sight comes with base that mounts to it. I’m pleased with piece. Very small, dot quality is good, weights almost nothing. Can’t wait to get out there with it.

Just remember to keep the cover on the FF3 especially if you're hunting in bad weather. I bought a couple of extras on ebay which seem to be better suited to cold weather use than the OEM covers.

Will do, I have a semi-habit of ‘misplacing’ these types of accessories. I have it on right now the in the safe and will keep them together. Thanks

My FF3 came with a hard plastic 'rain cover' sort of thing that does nothing to keep dust out. Some of the soft plastic covers will do a better job of keeping dust/rain/snow off the sight. This one reason I went with an ADE dot for the beater 22/45. The cover is a good seal, easier to flip off and the 'go button' is on the front of the sight where it's easier/quicker to turn on even with gloves.

Interesting, do you by chance have a brand name of the soft cover you’re talking about? It sounds like something I might like to get. One of the first things I noticed with the supplied hard cover is, I found it very difficult to turn on and change dot settings with the the cover on. They should have designed that better.

I would remove the scope blocks, put the original low rail on the rifle and the red dot on it. It will sit considerably lower and should improve the sight picture/handling a good deal.

It was a toss up deciding to go with the rail or the weaver blocks. It boiled down to me not caring for the look of a long rail with a small red dot mounted on it. In retrospect I might backtrack and do the rail. Lowering the dot might be more more important then appearance. Then again I have an Aimpoint mounted on a Larue mount that sits even higher on my Colt M4 and it suits me fine. I’ll try it as is at the range and decide which way I’ll go.

You can always cut the rail shorter as long as you have two screws in it. I did it on my 22/45's and Browning

I got a pair of them a couple days but just got around to opening and putting one on. Looks good, went on easy, fits like a glove. A good inexpensive purchase that will Do it’s job, thanks again.
