Recommended folder for a mini-14?

There is no after market collapsible stock that does the Mini 14 justice. Just the nature of the Mini. If you can find an original folder, they are the best compromise, but very expensive.

And the after-market Butler Creek folding stock is another better-than-nothing option. You'd have to find one of those on the used market.

Here's a photo and a link showing one of the available collapsible/folding stocks. They are just plain cumbersome. The other available stocks I've seen over the years are similarly cumbersome.

Yep, I do like my Mini's, but the stocks remain stock.

For less money than a Mini, I'd get a dedicated AR in the M4 configuration, if a short and/or collapsible stock could work for what you have in mind.

WAYNO.

Midway has the Butler creek folding stock. A few months ago, I bought one for a 10/22 & my mini 14.

Choate is the best choice.... actually made in the USA..
2nd choice is Butler Creek (best if you have a stainless Mini-14)
I'm not really a fan of the ATI... is pretty bulky.
(I have all three).... I'm a fan of folding stocks on certain rifles...

Choate offers both folding and collapsible stock options for the Mini:

There were four makers of excellent preban wood folding stocks. Falcon, ramline, choate, federal ordnance. They show up on eBay around $200-250. I prefer any of these over the modern synthetic versions.

The Choate folder for the Mini is the best, but it is one of the ugliest to me. Their non-folding pistol grip stock is great as well if you don't need the folding feature.
