Hi, I'm looking for a good castle nut wrench for the Ruger AR-556. I've read reviews where some wrenches damage the nut due to the notches in the wrench not properly fitting in the groves of the nut. Some wrenches have 3 notches and some have only one. I don't want to strip the groves in the nut with an inferior wrench. The nut has become loose after a few days at the range and I can only hand tighten for now. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

Calling Brownells tech line might be a start ? Looking at your nut & comparing it to a photo of a mill spec part would give a idea if Ruger used a mill spec configuration. Or, Brownells may even know.

Suggest getting it solved before a lot more shooting, the head space will grow when the nut gets loose & you could wind up with a face full of hot gas or worse.

I will be getting it solved before I do any shooting. Thanks for the advice. Looks like mil spec and I have picked out the good tool. I don't mind paying a little more for something that's quality and going to last longer. Thanks again!

D C,
I just pulled my head out of that dark place & realized how off my reply was, loose castle nut causing headspace issues  DUH! Thanks for not calling me a dumba$$, but you should have. I somehow went to the front of the receiver & was thinking barrel nut  .

I noticed there are videos on how to stake the nut, to which I was unaware of that being done. All of mine have always been just wrench tightened with no further issues.

Glad you found the proper wrench.
