I got this for the grandsons, and it has the short comb stock end, short pull.

The rear sight is a pretty tall double ghost ring.

Would like to attach the Tasco 3-9 scope I picked up yesterday (BW Outfitters, Anita, IA) with a ring setup that would not require I remove the ghost-ring rear site, and will allow peep-through so as to use the open sights as an option.

The rifle's receiver has the dovetails milled, so is there a way to attach directly to those without screwing Weaver-type scompe mounts atop the receiver.

There are "see-through" dovetail rings that will direct mount.
BUT, I'll warn you that this will end with the kids not being able to properly aim with the scope. They won't be able to manage a "cheekweld" with the stock and will not consistently align their eye with the center of the scope.
We went through this last year with Grandson. His shots were all over the paper and finally I determined he wasn't looking through the center of the scope(high, low, sidewise) causing a severe parallax condition throwing the shots off several inches. Those rings were as low as mechanically feasible so we had to add an adjustable cheekpiece.
My suggestion is to mount the scope as low as the bolt handle travel will allow and teach them to properly mount the rifle in alignment with their eye.

"See through" scope mounts are a dreadful idea. Neither the scope not the iron sights are properly usable. The scope is WAY too high and the irons are in a tunnel under the scope and their field of view severely restricted. Use one or the other.
