Put 150 rounds thru gun and shot last 100 at 7 yards. The gun shoots 3-4 inches low and 6 inches left from factory settings. Loosened rear sight and tried to tap sights to the right to align, but wont budge. Set screw is all the way out and used doubled up index cards and a fat punch and hammer, but wont seem to budge. any tips? Also, since gun shoots low is it my aiming point? Line the 3 dots up and put top of front sight at bottom of bulls and shoots low. guess i need to cover target with front sight? As is now, have to aim top pf sight above intended target(bulls). Maybe it is the break in as well? Anyone else have opinions or suggestions?

I take it from your question about where to hold the sights that you are fairly new to handguns (sorry if I am assuming wrong). If that is the case, you should know that hitting the target Low/Left is a very common problem for new shooters (right-handed ones), and is due to problems with technique. I would recommend you have a very experienced shooter confirm where the gun is actually printing before making any sight adjustments. Check out a "diagnostic target" for suggestions on how to identify any technique problems, such as this one:

while i am relatively new, I was also shooting a friends 9mm (who is very experienced) and was dead on, as was he with his baretta. we both shot low left with my 1911 in exact same spot. Even on a sandbag rested it was off.

From the muzzle end of your (UNLOADED) gun, look closley at the relationship between the barrel, the bushing and how the bushing sits inside the slide. Everything I mentioned should be centered to the other and an imaginary line should pass through the center of all three and continue on-up through the center of the front sight. If those factors are not present, you might as well quit whacking on the rear sight and send the gun back to Ruger instead.

On the other hand, "low left" is real common for new shooters, or even for seasoned shooters who aint familiar with the type of gun you have.

Mine shot about 4" right at about 20 yds, I loosened the set screw and had to give it a few good smacks with a hammer and brass punch. The elevation on mine was spot on. The sight is a tight fit.

You don't say how you are securing the slide when you try to drift the rear sight. If you aren't already doing so, you might want to think about holding the slide in a padded vise when drifting. If your just laying it on a bench (or a towel on the kitchen table), you aren't getting much force onto the rear sight. I also wouldn't pad between the sight and the drift.

Use a brass drift. You don't want anything compressible in the line of force. You need to set things up so the only thing moving is the rear sight.

Once you break it free, you should be able to tap-tap-tap.
