It seems when I joined this forum years and years ago now, that people made a big deal about the "billboard" on the side of the barrel. Ya'll claimed it was the lawyers being busy bodies etc. I don't disagree. Since then, I think Ruger has tried to put that warning down on the bottom of the barrel so it's mostly out of view.

But I'm seeing more and more guns with similar warnings on the barrels or frame. I guess it's become more commonplace.

I guess if it's bothersome, all the more reason to search for a good used example. But, as soon as I work up the courage to buy another gun, I get the electric bill, the water bill, the phone bill... those don't seem to stop.

Kevin, I think that we are seeing these warnings being put on guns (and a whole lot more) because of the way this country has been headed since the 1960's. People sue at the drop of a hat expecting a big pay out. People are not teaching their kids how to do things, like read the manual before you use something, think just a bit before you act, etc.. Look at the news about McDonalds being sued for serving hot coffee, hot McNuggets, etc. People think they are entitled. Sorry didn't mean to go political.

You mean the two guys that picked up a running lawn mower by the deck to trim their hedge should have known better?

Added a bit to my above statement. But also, who hands a small child hot food without first saying, "Be careful, it might be very hot."

Dan in MI - Those were Darwin Award contestants.

Rhetorical - Have people really lost (or never gained) COMMON SENSE, what has happened in the last 50 years in America (other than our public school education after about 1970 (my public schooling went from 1959 to 1971 and I had VERY GOOD teachers who were not given or who did not have an agenda to force feed kids))??

People are very quick to sue over almost anything & everything. I'm not really a fan of the warning billboards but at the same time I can't blame firearms manufacturers for trying to protect themselves from frivolous lawsuits.

As I recall, the Ruger warning was added as a result of a lawsuit where a guy in Alaska was motoring along in a pickup on a dirt road with a loaded (all six) old model Super Blackhawk on the dashboard, or maybe it was under the seat. He hit a bump, it discharged and killed him. That not only prompted the Warning but also the development of the old model conversion kit to the transfer bar safety. I think there may have also been some financial payout to his family.

I suspect Ruger's lawyers were tempted to use the Natural Selection defense, but restrained themselves.

None of my Sigs have a warning on them.......

but this might change since it seems the P320 is going off by itself all over the place.
I looks like they only do it when in the holsters of law enforcement and nowhere else.
