RB-22AW Bisley

Sat up a table at a small one day Gun Show today. Alot of NM Rugers
and a few OM's but no FT's, one nice 61/2" .41 mag 4 digit 1st year gun.

This one came in 1/2 hour before the show was due to be over :wink: :wink: .

RB-22AW Bisley ser# 261-28149, per RENE around 200 made. Not quite
as rare as the RB-22A of which only around 100 made. This one is Mint!

Terry, nice find!!!!! Must be a hell of a spread though for 200 guns, I have two (2) RB22-AW's, #261-01817 and #261-01617. Have to look and see where the RB22-A is. Have a RB22, #261-03160, RB22-W, #261-13318.......................couple other ones...................somewhere, Coogs.

I too noticed the large range of numbers when I referenced
the gun in the latest RENE revision.

Terry, NICE score, you did good.......Medina show was kinda slow today, I was only able to pick up a 4 digit .30 carbine ,old model, for 'Cherokee' ,( I always look for nice stuff for Dave...) and the only other gun I got was a NIB SP101, snubby .357 mag ...............saw a MINT, boxed RSS early roundgate, but my buddy wanted it as 1957 was his birth year,oh well, he did GOOD at $375........( yes, those are OHIO prices flatgate......)

I picked mine about a year ago because it looked unfired, and the price was right. Had no idea that it might be rare.

Well shucks....that 22LR pistol looked familier so I went down to the gun room and opened the RUGER safe. Yep, lo and behold there was a box just like yours, RB22AW, in all it's yellow and black glory. Inside is an ivory stocked Bisley 6 1/2" 22 exactly like yours. It's serial number is 26,890+- less than yours and how that could equate to a run of 200 guns always befuddles my mind. Hmmmm......so how can 200 guns be spread acrossed nearly 27,000 guns ???
There are two things I know about mine : it will average right around .70" for 6-shot groups at 25 yards off the sandbag rests with most high quality 22LR ammunition, and my ol' pal Jeff Munnell ESQ told me it is the second lowest numbered Bisley 22 known to leave the factory. I always thought he was pulling my leg just to keep me from cutting the barrel to 4 5/8", and since I ended up with a 4 5/8" stainless Bisley AJ sighted model a few years later I forgot all about circumsizing this one till this very moment in time.

I have 3 of the RB-22AW's myself. One has a 263 prefix & the other 2 have a 264 prefix.
Maybe the INITIAL run of them was about 200 guns??? I'll have to dig into the RENE to study it a bit.

Guys they are coming out of the woodwork!!!
Besides the guns posted here, I found one on
GA that just sold for $500.00 shipped and one
on GB, a shooter at $355.00 now. Both of these guns
have 263- prefix's.

IIRC there was a typo in RENE ???? Maybe a PM to chad is in order. Just my .2 fyi ??????

I allways thought there were alot of adj. sight models, so I finally found a fixed sight fluted cylinder to go along side her big brother .32.

I'm a collector of shooters so the details really not my top priority, this does have my interest perked.

I have allways thought the fluted cylinder Bisleys were the hard ones to find. I like em. 32/22

PS, The RB-22A does have the fluted cylinder & adjst/sights, it is harder to find. Now whatch 100 turn up!!

Yes, there was a typo in the 2006 dated set of references, and maybe before that as well.
The RB22AW is actually the common one, but they are discontinued...even though a few seem to be dribbling out from Ruger every now and then.
The really rare ones are the models RB22W and RB22A since those were the "transitional" models between the RB22 and RB22AW
