Just put several moon clips through my new LCR 9mm today. Most accurate LCR I have fired, and I have owned or still own every model Ruger has offered in this model. This one has a white outlined front sight, which I think helped me achieve tighter groups. The very smooth action was nice too. Moon clips are very sturdy and both easy to load and remove spent cases.

In my opinion this is Ruger's best offering in the LCR for conceal carry.

Thanks. I have one on my short list too. Fondled one at my LGS and found the trigger to be near perfect on that particular revolver. I have the .22mag and am happy with it for a trail or woods gun and would like to add another in 9mm.

Just picked up the LCRS 9 mm. Trigger very smooth. Where can I get extra "clips" for the bullets? Read the above range report, any else put a lot of ammo thru theirs? Any one have problems thru theirs? Cannot wait to get to the range.

If they weren't "Out of Stock" :(

Opticsplanet appears to have them, but at an elevated price.

Loaded the LCR9mm with snap caps for testing and indoor practice. Did not use the moon clips. Seamed to work ok. Do I need to use the moon clips for actual firing if I don't want too? Pistol feels just like the 22 Mag in trigger pull.

djw54, thanks for the info on extra moon clips!

Thanks for the review, this gun is also on my short list, I like 9mm revolvers and this one would keep my S&W 940 and Speed Six 9mm company.

You will have to pick the cases out after firing without the clip...ejector rod will not work without it.

Also, have read that the cylinder will bind on some guns as one or some of the cases will back out under recoil. However, I do not know this for sure.

I had a Sp101 and a lot of times I would not use the clips. Just pulled the cases out with my nails. Sometimes they would fall out. The clips sure made for fast reloads though. The ones for the LCR are pricey too.

Yup, you don't have to use moon clips but they sure make it easier. It sucks that Ruger is charging such a premium for moon clips at $5 a piece. The moon clips I use for my 9mm SP101s are $9.99 for 8 on Midway.com

And as I read on another forum, the moon clips used in the SP101 do not work with the LCR9mm

Just got the call yesterday from my LGS that my LCR 9mm had arrived. Unfortunately since I live in the Socialist State of New York, I will have to wait a week or so while it gets added to my license before I can pick it up. Still an early Christmas for me.

Picked up my new LCR 9mm 10 days ago from my LGS. Weather hasn't allowed a lot of range time but I have put 85 rounds through it. Really like it and it makes a good big brother to my LCR .22. My groupings are improving but still nothing to brag about. I ordered another 6 moon clips, if I find a better price I will buy some more. The clips are not hard to load and with the help of a pencil or other small rod they unload easy but it would be nice to load up a days worth of range ammo at a time.

I had a 1 inch clear plastic tube with soft rubber caps in my junk box. The caps make a perfect cap to press a full moon clip in to make it safer for pocket carry of ammo. Hope to find some more of these caps.

I ran 3 kinds of practice ammo so far, no defensive yet. Winchester white box, Federal American Eagle and Blazer Brass. White box and American Eagle worked fine, Blazer Brass failed badly. I tried to shoot 3 clips of Blazer, first two after shooting 4 rounds the 5th bullet separated from it's casing and jammed the cylinder, the 3rd clip two bullets separated after firing 3 shots and jammed the cylinder. The bullets actually protrude from the front of the cylinder. I have another box of Blazer from another batch that I will try and then send a note to Blazer. I do not blame the gun at all it is obviously bad crimp but it does make you doubt the reliability of a revolver that is always suppose to go bang when you pull the trigger.
