Question about New Model Black Hawk reloading

I havn't started reloading yet. i am picking up the equipment this weekend. I have a New Model Black Hawk 5 1/2 inch in 45 colt.
So my question is are the New Model Black Hawks capable of handleing the Ruger Only Loads or is that only for the Old Madel Black hawks and the Super Black hawks.
I do plan on starting with the lesser loads but just wanted to ask ahead of time.

YES!!!! the New Model Black Hawk can handle the loads, It's the new model Vaquero that can not due to it's light new frame and thinner walled cylinder.
Your good to go.

8 to 8.5 grains of Unique and around a 250 gr. bullet is pretty hard to beat.

I agree completely. and 9.5gr Unique and a 255gr LSWC makes a great deer hunting load.

Yes, all 'Large' frame Rugers (OM or NM) are capable of handling the ROLs. As stated above the New Vaqueros and Flattops are 'medium' frame and are NOT capable of shooting ROLs.

8.0g to 8.5g of Unique under 250-270g bullet is hard to beat. There are many other loads that work well too I've found.

Remembert to start low and work up on those heavy loads. The "Ruger only" loads take pressures up pretty high.

They will and I shoot some in my NM Blackhawk…

But, be prepared for the recoil and a finger or two hit by the trigger guard…

And, actually shooting bunches of them can bruise the palm of your hand in the thumb area…

That takes the “fun” out of shooting those industrial strength loads quickly!!!...

The grips on the Blackhawk are not the best in the world…

I do wear a shooting glove when rarely shooting them anymore…

Please rembember not to share your reloads ,some of those loads could and would scatter old lesser guns. Then again if you buddy has say a 454 cassul or redhawk/super red , Dan Wesson , Anaconda it might be ok . I very rarely if ever shoot someone elses reloads . 8.5 grs. Unique is my standard Blackhawk load . My old 1909 Colt hits a sweet spot at 7.6 grs. your guns may differ , it your money enjoy it for what you have . If in dout get a bigger gun !!!

Gee you guys, even a 2nd gen Colt SAA can handle up to 10 grs of Obsolique under a 250 gr for around 1000 fps according to old Speer data with Hercules UNQ...I use 11 grs of the "new improved cleaner burning" UNQ (when I use it at all) in my BH, but I much prefer HS6 and SR4759 for "all around" use and W296 for full tilt barn burners...

For 800-850 fps with a 250 gr (about what stiffer of the the proceeding posted UNQ loads will do) Green Dot has worked pretty well for me and a few others...

But if you want that .45 Blackhawk to really sit up and bark, try dumping copious amounts of W296 (or H110) into that big ol' case and let 'er rip...(Hang on though! :wink

My current fave is a 240 gr XTP over 27.5 gr of H110/W296. Mine is a 5.5 inch NM and I put Pachmayr Presentation grips on it. Not unpleasant at all. I'll shoot 50-100 rds at a time like that.

Once I get the throats reamed, I'll move to casting my own for this gun. Likely a Mihec #503 (285 gr LSWC).

It does command the attention of folks in the next lane.
