Hi folks,
My mother Ellen is in need of prayers. She is 86 years old, still lives alone, and took a bad fall yesterday on her front porch.
Her neighbors saw her and came to her aid, and the paramedics took her to the ER in Portland at OHSU.
She fell forward onto her concrete porch while going up the stairs, and broke her jaw on both sides, and put a nasty gash on her chin requiring multiple stitches. She bit her tongue badly in the process too. She also dislocated her shoulder and broke or cracked at least 3 ribs. They managed to put her shoulder back in place without surgery, but can't do much about the jaw until the swelling goes down, and the plastic surgeon is unsure if she will require surgery to fix it or not. Regardless, she will be wearing a sling on her "good" arm for a few weeks (the other arm was injured a few months ago, and is largely useless) and will be on a liquid diet for 6 weeks.
Fortunately my two brothers still live in Portland and are there for support. It's going to be difficult for them to see to her needs while still working their jobs and maintaining their own families. Mom is going to need a lot of help.
