Plow handle to Bisley grip conversion.

I have a 44 Special FT with the plow handle grips and have been considering sending it back to Ruger for a Bisley grip/hammer/trigger conversion. Anyone ever do this? Cost? It's bound to be cheaper than buying a 5.5" Bisley 44 FT. Thanks.

Since it is in as new condition would they have to re-blue it?

I don't think Ruger will do the work for you since the gun wasn't "shipped" in that configuration.

They'll sell you the parts, however.

You may well be right. A few years ago I sent a NM RSB with 5.5" bbl with the little plow handle grips back to them and had them put a dragoon grip frame on it and they didn't give me any hassle over it.

They might if they are supplying Bisley grips with the locks now. I doubt that they would even put a dragoon grip frame on a regular new Blackhawk now since they haven't yet offered the dragoon in a lock version.

So what you fellows are telling me is that if I want a Bisley FT 44 Special with a 5.5" barrel I'll just have to go out and buy one? Man that is one depressing thought.

I had Joh Gallagher do a Bisley conversion for me on a stainless 327 Federal Blackhawk. He used new Ruger parts and fitted them to look like an original factory job. Any competent smith can handle the job if they are willing to do the tedious work like John. I posted a picture on this section several weeks ago when he finished it.

I've installed steel or brass grip frames on a bunch of shooters... 'tain't hard.

Screw the grip frame onto the cylinder frame. Inspect the fit, remove, file off a wee bit and do it again.

Yea I've done it to 3 OM's. Never tried it on a NM. Will probably just buy what I'm looking for. I'm certain theres one out there somewhere that needs a good home.

Brownells has the Bisley gripframe and conversion kit for Blackhawk/Vaquero in the "white" for the what looks like the older pre-lock guns once again.

Much cheaper and easier to sell the gun you have and buy the gun you want.
