How to shoot yourself with a hammer. Not sure where this took place but be aware there is some blood.

I remember as a kid putting 22’s in the trolley tracks and hearing them pop when the trolley rolled over them, sometimes, but no one ever got hurt. Most of the time nothing happened other than the cartridge being crushed.

When I was a kid the neighborhood trouble maker got a hold of some .22's, went out in a field and would set them on a flat rock and would smack them with another rock, don't know how many he did before the same thing happened to him, a neighbor with a car took him to a hospital.
I saw the hole that they made digging out the piece of brass out of his leg, the cops got involved but never found out how it ended, I was about 8 the other kid was about 10.

remember full rolls of caps? i use to hit them with a hammer. got one or 2 good booms then a pop here at there. one time the cement i whacked it on shattered and got me. never did it again.

Many times young and stupid go hand in hand. My buddy Bill and I stuck a couple .22lr into a clay bank, backed up about 15 feet and tried to hit the primer with our BB guns. Bill scored first ... the case recoiled out of the bank and severely impacted his forehead. He carried the mark to his grave, many years later.

My uncle did the same thing only the case went though his cheek, cracked some teeth and got lodged in his tongue.

I have to admit that I kinda did the same thing when I was 10 years old.
A local surplus store sold blank guns. They were not very well made and would seldom last through a box of blanks. When mine broke I got the bright idea of smashing some blanks with a rock and got shrapnel in various parts of my face.
Altho it wasn't very painful at the time it was very painful when my dad started digging out the pieces with a needle. I never felt the desire to do that again,

Obviously, we need hammer control. Make hardware stores run background checks before selling someone a hammer. And make the buyer take a class on safe hammer use and the situations where you can use a hammer. And, of course, outlaw "assault hammers' with high-capacity handles.

Where did he get that POS hammer? Decent hammers are available in every junk shop, flea market, and yard sale. That thing belongs in the scrap heap.
