A local Pawn shop has a 3 digit Bearcat in about 90% condition that dates to 1959. Asking price is $575.00 but I can deal with the guy. What's it worth?

well if its a 3 digit number ( no prefix) it is a slight premium, Alphabet ( letter before the numbers) are a premium over any standard issue, so it too woukld be a slight premium,BUT at 90% condition, this drops it down into a lower range than $575,,,as that would be "mint in the box" around here, wish I could get that much for any old model Bearcat....if you say you can deal with him then try at least $100 off his price........to me it is a $450-495 gun tops, as a "3-digit" gun...........90%condition (condition IS everything in the long run)
(depending on just what 3 digits the numbers may be and the "pucker factor" for someone who NEEDS that particular number, price can and will vary.....) 8)

I am on the opinion that the price is a little high. But when will you ever see one that old in pretty good shape again. If I was looking for a Bearcat I would not mind the price but I bet you can deal him down a little. I would be proud to own it. I think mine was around 1965 I traded a M&P 9mm for it. I can always get a M&P but never have I seen a 1965 Bearcat sitting on a shelf. Only newer Bearcats.

I Love mine, it goes very well with my Browning BL-22 Micro Midas.

What's it worth to you?
To me, it's worth no where near the asking price.

If you want to pay that much to be able to say you have a really old one,
good for you. For that price I would get a brand new one.
(looked yesterday and that is the going price for new)

A lot of this is I had one like it when I was a kid and want this one! Maybe not a good long term investment but good for the person who bought it.

Good for you for resisting "the fever". Paying way too much for a used gun is a rookie mistake.
Now fever here and Damn sure not a rookie as I've been trading guns for more than 40 years! :D

you never pay too much for used guns, you may have bought too early.
I traded a nice 686 Smith back in the late 80s for an Alpha-cat. Back then I only paid $180 for the Smith. But this was long before the internet and I had only seen 1 other Bearcat in my young life, 686's were a dime a dozen back then since most police departments around here carried them. The same Smith would probably bring close to twice as much as the Alpha-cat would now. I still have the Alpha-cat and don't miss the Smith 686 at all.

Amazing how much these little guns have appreciated. I bought my Bearcat new in 1964 for $35.00!
In 1967 I bought a new 10/22 Carbine for $55.00. I still shoot both almost every range trip.

Sold it in '76 for $200 and bought a new one in '96 for $400.
