Going through stuff came across a Pachmayr box (BlackHawk) I forgot about. This came from my time mentoring in Poway Gunworks back in mid 80s. However, Pachys came in the gold/blue/red boxes then.....and the plastic clamshells came a bit later.

I'm taking the lazy route since it's late and the rack is calling.....so I'm asking here. What time frame production is this box? 70s?

Since I found these....time to scratch an itch I've had since 1985....that originated at a gun shop in Escondido, Cali. (Duffys?)

Well I got my answer...if anyone cares Pachmayr used this box in the 60's into very early 70's. Boring topic but I just thought it was interesting. When I got into firearms full bore the Pachmayr grip boxes were gold/blue/red for a while and then the plastic clam shells came along. It will find a home on a shelf next to some other vintage boxes.

The grips are in great shape still.......may just wipe them down with a little Armor All cleaner.

I used to see those boxes in gun stores “$10 miscellaneous for sale” bins or boxes.
Can’t tell you how many I opened ( and bought ) that had factory original Security Six or Redhawk or K Frame grips in them! Ahhhh….the good ole days.

None of the Pach or other rubber grips ever suited me.

I've seen them at gun shows but never looked at them. This box came from the time I worked part time in a gun shop. Around 1987. But Pachmayr already had the newer style box. On another forum a member had pics of both, and of a old Mershon box. The box I showed is the first box they used after Mershon, into the 70's. (or at least it was explained that way).

I like Pachys...but not all fit me either, and some are just plain ugly.

7-78 on a retail sticker doesn't necessarily mean a date. Stickers have all sorts of codes.

I believe I’ve got a box like that buried somewhere in the shed that came with my Pachmayr presentations from 79/80

If I had left mine in my shed it would have become mouse bedding long ago.

I still have the sales slip inside that box which confirms that date . . . . . 👍

used these on my model 15 for about 6 years, until the department transitioned to Glock and wisely mandated everyone carry the same weapon and ammo..... duhhh

one can tell that they had a bit of use at the range .....

I never liked pach's, wrong shapes, and my best choice was mustang's hockey pucks on my first duty piece, 4" hb k38, picked because everything is a compromise and the boss wouldnt let me carve or sand on the herretts i got for it. The worst rubbergrips were the distorted unkle mices that came with my current ss 4" hb 64-something, the one with the lock, promptly replaced with the very same mustangs i carried for pay back in the day. Still nothing better in my hand. The fat presentations are second best.
"YMMV"

Back in the day that was the way to go for grips. I still have some of the old MKIs in the box. But I now prefer Houges on my shooters. I use the Pachs on my MKI Clarks and other custom MKIs for the originality.

never cared for Pach's on a revolver; I tried them a couple of times but they always felt squirmy no matter how tight I tightened the screw. I liked them on an autoloader though, or at least I did before I started noticing the rust that would develop under them.

I started noticing the rust that would develop under them.

This is the second time in 40 yrs I've heard that.

I have had them on various revolvers and pistols.....my Security Six has had them on since 1985....I have never seen rust under the pachys on that gun or any other. When working in a gun shop and cleaning guns wearing Pachys I have never seen it.

I'm not saying folks have not come across it. Just saying that I haven't.

mine were on mine for at least 10 years in-service, then another 20 or so in storage and no issue....

I have, only on previously-owned pawnshop rescues; "you dont know where that has been!"

Mine were on a late 1970's Colt Gov't model. Had to resort to smearing RIG on the grip frame or every time I removed them they had active red rust starting. West Central Ohio and perhaps tied to humidity.

Soured me on Pachmyer's ; Now it's nice wood or stag on my pistols

Uncle Mikes rubber finger groove round butt to square k frame are well over $100 on eBay these days. Crazy. I've got them on several of my revolvers and they fit my hand very well. YMMD.

These are squarshed out of shape along the middle of the spine. And too narrow. Never gonna say people are stupid for picking something that fits them better'n me.

I just wish that Pachmayr made N frame RB to SB conversion stocks. I could really use a set of those.

I have a couple old Pachmyr grips I like.

The new ones I have tried have been soft loose floppy and sticky.

I’ve never been able to figure out if the old ones were better from the start, or if they improved over time

Still they are old school cool. 😎
