P345 - Function With 17 lb Recoil Spring?

Hi all,

It seems many folks recommend changing the recoil spring in their P345's to a heavier one. I see that Wolf makes a 15 and a 17 lb; I'm wondering how/if the pistol functions with full 230 gr loads and the 17 lb spring - anyone try it? If it works, I'll go with that spring; if not, I'll order the 15 pounder.

Hello pka45,

Who built your handgun, "Most Folks" or The Ruger Mfg. Co.? Your handgun was factory tested to function safely within the boundaries of factory made ammo. Unless your Ruger displays a problem, stay with what you have, otherwise send it back to Ruger for repair.

Thanks Anthony - I see your point, though I disagree. You must not ever get a trigger job on a gun either? Or certainly not custom grips?

Anyone else out there try the 17 lb spring? How did it work?

pka45, Understand that going with a heavier recoil spring will "change" the timing of the pistol which may or may not lead to feeding problems. It also contributes to "battering" of the breachface and extractor. Some modifications just don't work out very well and in my experience as a long time gunsmith, this is one of them! However, it's your gun, do as you wish!.......................Dick :wink:
