Hi all,

I'm experiencing a problem with my P345. Here's a brief personal history with this gun.

Bought used from my local range a few months ago. My first 45, it's the model with the decocker and safety. Shot very well until after my first cleaning. I used lube far too sparingly and got plenty of FTE's and FTF's. Lubed the rails and all mechanisms. Shot well again at the next range visit.

My current problem began two visits ago when the hammer would fail to remain cocked after a shot. It happened about every 5 shots and I wasn't overly concerned. At my most recent range visit, it happened every 5, then 4, then 3, then 2, then every single shot required a DA trigger pull. I cannot even manually cock the hammer with my thumb anymore- it just won't stay down. I field-stripped it when I got home and found that it can still cock when the slide isn't attached, so I don't think the problem is in the lower portion (unless the sear was bent by a visually-undetectable amount). I suspect that the decocking mechanism in the slide has somehow become constantly engaged and is pushing down on the sear. I'm new to owning guns, so I'm only speculating based on what I've read in other forums.

Was wondering what thoughts anyone might have. I emailed Ruger and they want me to send it to them (but didn't send me a nice shipping label or anything). I'd rather not pay to send it across the country and back if it turns out to be something I can fix in my living room. Thanks for reading.

Without looking at your 345, I would look at your Trigger Bar to see if the decocking part of thr Trigger Bar is fully up when the safety is in the Fire position. It could be a weak Trigger Bar Spring..................................

Field-stripped it again and had a long, deep stare at the decocking/safety mechanism. Turns out the pin about which it rotates had worked itself out and was constantly pushing down on the sear. Pushed it back in with a flat head screwdriver and it cocks again :) Now my girlfriend can shoot it (DA was too heavy)! Let's see how long until it works itself out again...
