Our most valuable resource........

For a number of years now I've had a standing proposition for the kids at my church. My proposition is this: If they will learn the Books of the Bible, and recite them to me, I will award them a Silver Eagle. To date, one hundred eleven children have earned this award.

Yesterday I awarded a Silver Eagle to a little girl, three years old. And her dad told me if it weren't for Corinthians and Thessalonians, she would have won the award at age two!

And, last night, I saw a young mother, wife of a new, and young, deacon, sitting and holding their newest baby on her lap. This baby is only a month old or two, but was looking around at the Christmas lights recently put up decorating the church. Some time in the future, she will have remembrance of being in church, and being taught.

Some of you have disagreed with me concerning our church doctrine, but we do believe in teaching a child from the earliest age to be in church, learn and adhere to sound doctrine, and for parents to provide a sound home life.

Our children are the future of our country, our most valuable resource.

I agree whole heartedly with you. I think most of the problems in society occur because the family unit has decayed. We as a country have also lost our faith.

I've said that for some yrs., and pointed out that sadly they are now our number one export, wearing camo..protecting people that hate us. Well, some do. Some have learned, but can't voice an opinion, or vote, or..It saddens me greatly.

I also agree with you a lot Bob. I was talking with a teacher I know. We were talking about kids learning, it was actually about praying before dinnertime at home. The teacher is at a different school but also a private religious school. She told me "More is caught than taught." I try to remember that simple phrase when I am out with my daughter. Set a good example and kids will just naturally follow...just as you say, "adhere to a sound doctrine, and for parents to provide a sound home life."

Bob, Yes you are so right. Back in my young days our church and public school also taught those lifetime values of what is right. Plus any adult in our community took a active part in seeing that we keep to the straight and narrow .

I'l admit it, I went to the church 3 times a week, sometimes more, It was the place to go to. It had basket ball courts,table tennis,ping pong, girls, school,night and day, many religions went there, other stuff to do,girls, classes of stuff I didn't understand until I was about 12 or so. Many many nationalities, but one thing we all had in common, we didn't know it then,WE WERE ALL AMERICANS. We were all in the same pot. Did we fight,you bet we did,and after the fight picked up shook hands we were all one and didn't know it, how important that was,is.
We the people,we the people.
Not now, people come here to be supported, given food, shelter just vote for me and you can do this for ever.
Standard talk to those people, of course I live here, my children go to school here, if we have a war, and need men,will you fight for your country, these are fighting words, and I only know what I know as my wife trembles inside, I could see her, my kids smiled, will you fight for your country, yes or no, I didn't care, I didn't worry, only now was important, in front of so many who heard my loud voice, I am a citizen here, I have the papers to prove it, answer me, no, no I won't fight, nor will I want my kids to fight, America is not my country, Cuba is my country,so why did your great grand father run away and not fight for cuba, your father came here, he made the journey on sticks to get here, for freedom, yet you say Cuba is your country,so why arnt you there.
No one wants to fight for us, only Americans,who ever we are, where ever we come from, in our hearts we know.

Given the three year old's success, I assume you mean being able to name the titles of the Books of the Bible, and not memorizing the text. :lol:

You are correct in that assumption. However, older children have memorized some very lengthy passages.

Quote Kevin, "more is caught then taught". This is a great statement and I have brought it up here many times. Parents, Aunts and Uncles, sisters and brothers all need to remember this. Your young child is a sponge soaking up everything it sees, hears, experiences. Small things matter. Stuff like watching pirated movies, music. Not paying toll road fees. Keeping incorrect change. Cheating on taxes. The list goes on and on. These may be small thefts but still are thefts and you are letting your kids know it's ok to be a thief or a liar. The sponge is being contaminated and we don't even realize it. JMOs.

I agree Bob. Our children are our most valuable resource. My wife & I have 3 ages 3, 8, & 10. We are doing are best to raise them right & provide them with the tools necessary to have a good productive life. We take them to church & my wife home schools them. There is more I'd like to say but to be honest I just can't seem to find the words. God has been good to me.
