I put this in the lounge. No idea where it it is supposed to go. Please move if need be.

My "dominant" hand changes depending on the task involved. When using short or smaller items like handgun, slingshot, hatchet, pen, and hand tools I am left handed. When using longer / bigger items such as an axe, long gun, pool cue, and baseball bat I am right handed. Yesterday was the first time in my long life that something kicked in. I shoot a handgun lefty, a long gun righty.

Yesterday I tried something new. I was shooting outside, of course. I held a LCP .380 in my left hand, and a Shockwave in my right- and started shooting. I believe that I found a new way to defend myself, but of course there are caveats :ROFLMAO: . The Shockwave is a hip shooter. 1) It's also a pump, therefore in this configuration I get one shot. 2) Can't one hand a rifle and aim, 3) I used a borrowed .410- not sure I could it with my 20 gauge. Of course it's not really viable defensively, but it was fun to do.

Born a natural lefty, but forced into being somewhat right handed by a teacher with a yard stick, I am fairly ambidextrous. I've never tried to fire a long gun and handgun at the same time. But I am pretty good at firing two handguns. I usually fire one and while it's recoiling I can fire the other. A pretty good rhythm can be achieved. The trick is switching eyes as you shoot. Focusing one then the other as the appropriate hand comes into play. Too many westerns as a kid I guess.

I'm ambidextrous. I shoot, use a chefs knife and many other tasks right handed. I swing a bat or golf club left handed.
I write and perform intricate tasks- such as working on a lock or other small mechanism- left handed. When I was a small child I was able to write with either hand. My teachers told me I was left handed, but I'm not, not really.
I'm ambidextrous!

I'm ambidextrous also, lefties have to be. I golf, shoot, eat with chopsticks and use keys right handed.

Most everything else lefty.

Same here, I think we’ve talked about this before. My teacher taped an outline of the “correct angle” my paper should be to write properly.

I don’t know enough curse words to say to that lady. Schools are definitely not better back in the day than now. But I digress.

To the OP, I’m almost 100% left handed. But have thought about trying to learn to shoot right handed the way you describe. It sounds worthwhile. Good job!

I too am ambidextrous but was predominantly left handed. I also had teachers and "well meaning" family members try to convert me to being right handed and all they did was piss me off. My printing is in block capitals and I have to go slowly to make it legible. I can't write in cursive with the emphasis on cursing... I need a bigger bladder to properly thank the people who tried to convert me to right handed

I'm right handed but shoot left because of left eye dominance. Been that way since NRA junior small bore. I can shoot right handed, with my right eye, but it's slightly awkward. I think it's important to practice shooting/reloading/malfunction drills with both hands and with one hand only in the event one hand is incapacitated. I'm not sure I see any benefit in shooting two guns in an SD situation. Having one hand available for administrative chores, such as opening/closing doors, holding a light, reloading, maintaining balance, pushing a loved behind cover, protecting your gun hand in the event things get too close, and a ton of other things. Carrying one gun can be a pain, two even more so, with reloads, excluding maybe a BUG in an ankle holster or some such. I seem to remember many years ago reading about Ed Sanow carrying up to 5 guns on a regular basis. He put himself in harms way as a matter of course, and seemed to have the training.

Also, I think it would be hard to train for under duress, I'm not sure I could effectively and safely deploy two guns at the same time when things are at their worst, at least not without a ton of practice, time, and gear to sort out the potential logistical problems. To be honest I've never tried it or even really considered it until now, so take my opinion for what it's worth.

Many years ago I worked with a nice guy in a muffler shop. He constantly but in good fun ribbed me about being left handed. He claimed to be ambidextrous so of course was better, faster, more accurate, etc.

One day I decided to find out how gullible he was. I told him as a friend and hoping to save him from getting embarrassed that ambidextrous is the Greek word for bisexual …. Just trying to help a buddy out you know. ;) The look of horror on his face was priceless and he never again mentioned handed-ness. :ROFLMAO:

Dad was fully ambidextrous and my older step brother was seriously left handed therefore I grew up working with mostly left handed men. I learned to do many tasks left handed rather than always get in the way. I can shoot rifle or handgun with either hand fairly well but not as good shooting shotgun lefty. Still use wrenches with whichever hand works best.

Had a teacher in high school who would write on the chalkboard with his left hand until he got even with his body and then would switch the chalk to his right hand to finish the sentence. You couldn't tell the difference.

I do things with different hands and feet. I am lefty, but shoot righty and kick balls, or whatever, with my right foot. Some tasks are more natural to a specific hand, but I wouldn't say I can do the same things equally as well with both hands so not truly ambi I guess.

Oh, they tried with me too. Right hand strapped behind my back, paper angle. the works. All it did was tick me off and write worse than ever.

Yep, forced me to write righthanded and then every teacher after that complained about my penmanship. My parents usually said it was because of a serious hand injury when I was five. But I've always known better. I couldn't print well before the injury and afterwards it was really any worse.

I am not ambidextrous but I do some things left handed and some right. I throw and catch right handed although I can throw decently left handed. I swing a bat and play golf left handed. I use eating utensils both ways. Riding a bike one-handed is way easier left handed. I can only kick with my right leg.

My wife and third kid are severely left handed. The other three kids are severely right handed.
