Hello, I am new to the Ruger Forum but I am a long time Ruger shooter. I have a Ruger 99 44 that I would like to equip with something like a red dot or an extended eye relief scope mounted "Scout style" forward of the action. This would eliminate the problems with bridging the Garand style action.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Nikon makes a nice EER scope. I tend to use handgun scopes as my EER scopes, have a Weaver 2.5 to 8X on a GSR and it's just right. Burris & Leupold also make excellent EER scopes. I'd stay away from anything cheap like Leapers or similar off brand.

Maybe I'm out of step, but I just don't get the red dots for anything other than close in shooting at big targets - as in pie plates at 25 yds or less. Every one I've seen is just poorly defined and imprecise. The 1 to 4X scopes seem much, much better all around.

If you decide to go conventional Weigand makes a Weaver style base that stays put over the receiver.

Regardless of what you choose, you'll need a forward rail on the 99 - don't know if what works for a Mini will also do on a 99.

I put a RedDot on mine and I like it a lot. The best combo I think would be an UltraDot with Ruger 30mm tall rings. btw an UltraDot is on sale now at Midway http://www.midwayusa.com/product/651463/product?cm_mmc=M_Spop-Email-_-Shooting-_-Shooting_122420122_1-_-Product5_Image&[email protected]&cm_mmca2=CustNum=100868018

I'm not sure how you would go forward on the 99/44 given the hand guard over the op rod.

I have a Weaver EER 2.5-8 on a Ruger Charger and it works pretty well, although I prefer my straight 2x EER Leupold.
