I think it is very likely that we will see top competitors eliminated by "positive" Covid tests, so that Chinese competitors can garner more medals.

I use to watch these "games" with interest, but that was long ago. I have less than no interest in seeing men disguised as women winning medals, or watching so-called games like "Quidditch" from Harry Potter books masquerading as a sport (I read that it might be added to the next Summer olympic games). Add all of this to the time differences in watching the events live and I doubt that I will watch any of it at all.

For the Summer games, if they would add javelin catching as an event, that would be worth watching.

I predict that the American who was raised and trained in the US and went to China to represent them this year will somehow win. Then go on worldwide media to tell the world how bad it was being raised in the US and how repressed she has been until now that she is in China.

Sounds right . . . to me.

Since the thread is on the Olimmmmpiiiicks  :
In doing my usual channel surfing, tonight I noticed a DECIDED lack of people
in attendance at the ice skating "event". Seems even the Chinese
are already BORED with it.

:D

Wake me when Nitro Fuel Funnycar is an Olympic sport. That I'd watch.

Maybe the missing lady tennis star will magically appear..... (?)

Zero interest.
Rewarding the Chinese with the Olympics after they unleashed the Wuhan flu on the world is unfathomable.
I know these games are bought and paid for years in advance, but it's not like the Chinese just turned into bad guys the last couple of years. They have been a monstrously oppressive dictatorship for decades.
After they unleashed the Wuhan flu on humanity, the entire international community should have boycotted the Olympics or moved them elsewhere and totally ostracized the Chinese Communist regime.

While I'm personally boycotting the Olympics, (I agree, they should have been moved elsewhere) I would like to point out that the athletes involved are there to represent their country. Our Country.

Many have trained for years, some for decades. All for the chance to wave the American Flag before the world, and extoll our greatness.
For some, it will be the proudest moment of their lives. For a disgusting few, it's an opportunity to grind their own political axe.

Not all of these athletes come from affluent backgrounds. The resources they have invested, both in time and money, are significant.

It isn't the fault of the athletes that the IAC didn't do the right thing, or that China was selected in the first place.
Many of these athletes will never have another chance to compete for their country. They deserve to have that chance now. Even if nobody is watching.

I feel sorry for them. I wish them all the best.

We are now in the middle of the Winter Olympics and I have to say I am not surprised at the lack of interest here but I am finding them very entertaining. I guess that is because we are coming out of this pandemic and I have a lot more time at home compared to last time. The metal count is not important to me but the competition is. Many smaller countries do very well and I find that interesting, showing their determination and years of training. My TV is just staying on them practically around the clock and there is always something new for me to watch.

My wife and I watched some of the coverage over the weekend. But, I've read a lot of news stories about how the Chinese are treating the athletes and from what I've read it sounds pretty bad. For example they quarantined an athlete from Finland who apparently wasn't positive with Covid. They had a quote that the "lockdowns" aren't based on medicine or science, but more like culture and politics. Or they provided lunch of potato chips, nuts and chocolate for some of the ski jumpers. Another athlete in quarantine was basically locked in a hotel room and fed the same thing for 5 days, pasta with "sauce" and some meat, nothing green and no veggies.

These are world class athletes who need to eat properly and have the ability to train for their event. China is making that difficult.

I can't get passed this on a personal level. I do try to avoid buying anything from China if at all possible.

This weeks conspiracy....... While the world is focused on the closing ceremony China will invade Taiwan. Everyone will sit back and do nothing because all their citizens will basically become hostages due to the ChiComs shutting down all civilian travel.

Aren't they supposed to synchronize that with the Ukraine invasion in an effort to cause all the news reporters heads to explode.
