So, I guess those that own Oly's have "collectors" pieces now :?

Too bad. I know a lot of people don't like them, but I've had one of their ARs for around 10 years and haven't had a minutes worth of trouble with it.

While I can't say I'm their biggest fan, I always hate to see a firearms manufacturer close their doors. Hopefully someone will step up and purchase their manufacturing capability. While the market is, IMHO, unsustainably glutted with AR manufacturers/assemblers, Oly does/did make some other worthwhile stuff.

My first AR was(still is as I have made a determined effort to keep it factory stock condition)an Oly Arms. Back then, I thought a .223 needed a heavy barrel to be accurate so this is a 16" bull profile. Heavy, poorly balanced little monster but it does shoot quite well.
Oly's "bad rep" was based on some owners who bought a "price point" firearm(the Plinker model built on a cast vs forged lower) and expected comparable quality/longevity to much more costly AR's.
Oly's 22/250 AR15 used some pretty fancy machining to fit the longer round into the .223 design--wish I'd bought the one I saw 2 years back but it was priced at 2X the already inflated AR price of the time.

Does anyone have experience with their .22 Pistol?

Who can't remember the name...sigh...age.

A remake of the Whitney Wolverine. Never seen one in person, would like too. Had an original about 35 years ago, & would like to compare.

I handled one in a gun shop. Plastic, you'd be sadly disappointed.

Remember in the early days of AR clones, milspec parts were rare and alot of stuff was reverse engineered.
Now not so much.

Who is quite pleased with a SWaMPy AR Sport I and his Mini-14 early model.

I have an original 1984 Olympic Arms "Stop Sign" CAR-15. Very well made and it did have a lot of mil spec parts in it. Recall that in 1984 that was a time when the AR was coming into vogue and were a bit more difficult to get . Then the clone market was starting out. Oly was one of the ones to be involved in this new market. The receivers were all milled to mil spec so it has all the internal cuts, holes etc unlike a lot of the clones available now.

Only problems I had so far were the collapsable butt stock, spring, damper were a bit short in durability / quality. So it was replaced with a Mag Pul unit and the extractor need a little work, it wanted to tear the cartridge rim a bit.
Funny, seem to be about 50 players in AR clone market the these days. Almost to the point of being generic in nature

I had an Oly with a match barrel and trigger. It was the most accurate AR I have ever owned. I don't know why I sold it, but regret it to this day. I know a guy who worked there since it opened. Will have to get the inside scoop on the closure.
