I've been researching for days without much success and was hoping to get some clarification from those who are Western 6 Shooter historians. I am primarily interested in locating "famous" pistols. Though I own Blackhawks, SuperBlackhawks, and a Bearcat, I was confused with the Urbanti Cimmaron "Wyatt Earp" Buntline model. Am I wrong, or was this gun simply built based on the Tombstone movie prop as there is no real data that suggests Wyatt ever carried a 10" Buntline.

Also, does anyone know if there is any real evidence of what Doc Holliday carried? I understand the most accurate information I see is that his uncle game him a Colt Navy 1851 that he carried when he was young, and others have suggested everything from Colt Lightening and Thunderer's to 7.5" Peacemakers.

Just wondering if anyone had any info on the above mentioned topics.

There were many Colt Buntline Specials manufactured long before the movie Tombstone. As to the original supposedly given to Wyatt Earp by Ned Buntline your guess is as good as any.

A "Uberti" Cimarron may have been the movie prop. I just don't remember for sure now. But you're right definitely not based on any known Earp Buntline. For one thing they have 10" barrels while the myth of the BLs has them as 12".

I was always convinced 'The Buntlines' were a figment of imagination. Colt records after the fire in 1864 the are quite complete and just are not a source of proof which they would be if the BLs existed.

Just like today these characters were gun users. They acquired many different guns in their lifetimes although some can be associated with a "style" of gun at the peak of their fame (or infamy).

Wes Hardin's as was said are well documented. What other famous or infamous characters used the Lightning, Thunderer or Rainmaker (.32) can be a tough call. Even to this day all three are referred to as the Lighning to many. All three names not even being Colt's at all but marketing lingo of B Kitridge & Sons, one of Colt's largest distributors.

The Cimarron gun is a copy of the "Tombstone" movie prop. Historians have argued for decades over what gun Wyatt Earp regularly carried. I doubt we will ever know. He has been variously described as using a standard Peacemaker, a 10 or 12-inch Peacemaker, or a Smith & Wesson single-action in the fight with the Clantons/McLaurys. Holliday is often described as carrying a nickel-plated revolver; which model is open to question. Much is made of this in the transcript of the Tombstone streetfight. R.L. Wilson's book "The Peacemakers" shows a photograph of a standard 7 1/2-inch Peacemaker alleged to be Doc's sixgun, but its documentation is questionable.
