Yup, I remember . . . SE Iowa. You will occasionally see similar stuff there yet today.

Use the same elevator to run hay bales up into the barn mow.

That is how it used to be done. In my corn harvesting days, though, we had a wagon with three people following. It wasn’t too bad unless you were lucky enough to get the two “down rows.”

My mom, bless her heart, used to talk about corn harvesting. Her brother, the only boy, got to drive the tractor towing the wagon while my grandfather and my mom's three sisters walked behind and beside harvesting corn ear by ear from the stalks while they walked. Mom is gone now six years, but look at what has changed in about 70 years. This was in NW Iowa in the thirties.

More than one farmer has lost fingers in a corn picker. I used to work with a guy who stuck his hand in to clear a jam in the chain and lost most of his fingers from his stupidity.

Many hands, arms, and in fact lives were lost to those old pickers.

We've got one of those one-row pickers still mounted on a Super M Farmall. Sitting in the barn, unused for maybe 8 or so years now. Who wants to buy it and go in business shelling corn? LOL

I'll bet the mice, rats, raccoons, squirrels and other critters like to hang around those wire mesh storage bins. Neat video to watch!
