Stopped at Gander Mtn yesterday to look at the revolvers(been keeping an eye out for a 5 1/2",44 spcl) and spotted an old model single six flatgate, its the first I've ever seen around here for sale. It has a 5 1/2" barrel and really isn't in to bad a shape, only has 2 problems that I could see, it has been converted to the transfer bar, and has a horrible set of grips that someone made out of pine. Anyways for a $199.00, I put it on layaway, its serial # is 43xxx, so I'm figuring 1956?? Now I'm looking for a set of grips for it, should I be looking for XR3 grips??Thanks for any help.

To be absolutely certain, you'd have to pull off the grips and see which grip frame you have, but that gun SHOULD have the XR3 version.

Good score, by the way.

:)

For that kind of money, I wouldve jumped on it too! You can reconvert it and buy the right grips and grip frame, and still come out OK.

Yes, a Type III Flatgate!

This one is a Type IV, but, it's very similar! Great buy on a piece of Ruger History that you can shoot 'till your Heart's content!

Sweet Price even if its converted. I haven't seen any Single Six under 200.00 since I bought my OM for 150.00 last year....it has alot of bluing wear but perfect shooter and solid as a rock. Great find! Congrats!

yessir ,sounds like Ohio pricing to me, and as Ale-8 said, won;t know till you make sure the grips frame on it is the "original" type as these are swapped out ALL the time, we know dozens of folks who buy these old ones just to "salvage" the old model parts, and then put the guns back out on the "market" as "shooters",so till then, MAKE sure so you do not buy any "parts,as a pig in a poke...." check ONCE and buy accordingly.....no matter whats on the gun now, thats still a great deal..............

Thanks for the replies, When I finish paying for it next month, I'll check under the grips, and also put up some pics.
