Hello, Brand new member here. I have been doing some research on my Single Six revolver in .22 caliber. It is of 1957 mfg. I love the gun and use it extensively to pop rattlesnakes on my hunting lease - I have a mayo jar full of rattles! Please correct me if I am wrong; this gun did not come with an extra Magnum cylinder, so it has a slightly smaller bore than the later "convertible" guns. I've been looking for a Magnum cylinder for it, will a New model cylinder fit? Will a Magnum cartridge fire safely from this gun? Will the Magnum cylinder need to be fitted or timed by a gunsmith or Ruger? Or can I do it myself? If I do this, will my LR cylinder still work? This is the first revolver I have ever owned, very sweet gun. It was in very nice condition when I got it, but it has some holster wear to the finish now. Definitely not a safe queen! I searched through the forum a bit today- tons of great info! I imagine I will be spending some time here for sure! Thanks :D

No do not find a magnum cylinder and fire .22WRMs in your older RSS!
It was much later (1959 #160000) that the first Convertibles were manufactured. I am figuring your gun is #88,XXX or less and is not a Lightweight.
If you really want to shoot the much more expensive and much louder .22WRM, I would suggest getting buying an additional gun that is a .22WRM only or a .22MRM/.22RF with the advantage of a longer barrel. Make it an Old Model that operates just like your RSS.
Being a "Florida Captain" in the panhandle is an old dream of mine.

Satcom, Thanks for the reply - my gun is 92xxx - I called Ruger, they told me 1957. I was just thinking it would be cool to be able to shoot the Magnums. Oh well. All the googling I have been doing lately, I just might have to find another one! Or talk my Dad out of the Colt .22 Mag that he has.

As you have found,,,your gun didn't have a magnum cylinder, nor should you try to add one. Now,, if you need a "Magnum only" OM Single-Six shooter,,, I know where one is!
