Hoedy folks new here. I have a Ruger Single Six old model with serial number in the 20-343XX range. I know very little about this revolver model. It has many clicks when cocking it that sounds like you are cracking walnuts, it locks up like a bank vault. The barrel is I believe 5.5". Is there anything special about these revolvers that I should know? Thanks!

First off Welcome to the Forum!
The RSS5 is the model & it is a late 1970 to 1971 gun it will have 3 clicks to full cock to shoot. It is the most common of the Single Six ever produced it also should have Walnut dull/oiled finished grips. Shoot it & take a friend & enjoy it.

Yes! They are technically 5 shooters. NEVER carry the gun with all 6 chambers loaded and the hammer down on a cartridge OR with the hammer pulled back to the first click. In either situation you can suffer a serious injury.

Please, please learn about the proper way to handle these old guns. One slip and things can get real serious real soon.

Sincerely,
Flatgate

Load one chamber, skip one chamber, load 4 more. Close the gate, ear the hammer back and let it down on the empty chamber.
