I found a couple of these old crates when I bought our house and took them out and stained them with a clear flat to help preserve the lettering. I have this one here underneath my Old Model Blackhawk and another unknown fruit company.

I have been given the job of a caretaker for a pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .308. The finish on the wood was horrible so after checking with the owner he gave me permission to stain it which after stripping it was done with three coats of Tru-oil. I have been given permission to shoot and hunt with it so I have worked up a few mild loads centering on some 165 grain Nosler Ballistic tips. With the Lyman receiver sight it will make a nice brush and woods gun.

Very old-school cool rifle (pretty much the only kind I like) in my favorite chambering. Have you ever seen a pre-64 model 70 in .308 that WASN'T a featherweight? A friend and I were talking about that a a gunshow recently. I don't know that much about all the variations Winchester may have made, but we both reflected that in 40 years of gun dealing, trading, and collecting, neither of us could recall seeing a pre-64 .308 model 70 that wasn't a featherweight.

Very, very nice. (both of them) I've had my eye out around here for a pre 64 Mod 70 like that. One of my all time favorite rifles.
