My son and I were at a small car show is past weekend with my Ford F-100, and as much as I love hot rods and muscle cars I love old pick ups. I spotted this 3100 in great shape for its age (keep in mind this is New York and salt goes on everything). It still has the old inline 6 cylinder and its original interior. You can't ask for much more, simple and easy. I heard it start up as it left and it ran great. It's nice to see one that has been left alone and not cut up.

I remember these old Chevy pickups well they were all my dad drove in the 60's, he drove them till they threw a rod then he'd buy another one, finally in 1970 he bought a new truck, life was never the same after that.

I agree with you. A hot rod can be amazing, but I love an old truck (jeep/car) with the original equipment.

Yes that is my dream truck and when I retire in 3 years I am going to own one unless I happen to find a 54 chevy convertible the only thing I see updated is add on signal lights Thanks for the pictures :) :) :)

i like the fact the he did not overdress the pickup with whitewalls and a bunch of chrome.

Wow that brings back memories. Had a 49 GMC pickup my junior year in high school. I remember the heel pumping on the gas pedal and toe mashed on the on the starter, with the engine barely turning over on those cold winter mornings wondering if that 6 volt battery was going to do it's job. Yep the choke all the way out, but every time she would finally take off but had to keep the choke on all the way, can never forget after a little warm up taking off and with the choke all the way out, she would run about 35 mph for a couple miles then all the sudden it would give you that backfire thru the carb, that meant it was time!! Shove the choke in and away she went, right on up to 55 60 mph, smooth as a kitten. That thing never got stuck, sure wish I had er back,,,like you say, unmolested with that ole 6 volt, no electronics, the way life was meant to be!!

Hi,

I caught that too... looks like the same unit that was installed on the family's '51 Chevy when I was maybe five or so (1955?) Dunno why, but that "accessory" had a greater "cool factor" than anything I could imagine at that age...

Shouldn't be too hard to do a really nice clean up job on this one if someone wanted to!

I got to drive one like that a few times. My girlfriend's dad in High School had a farm and we used to go out to bottle feed the calves. I went around a corner one time and the drivers door flew open. Good thing I was hanging onto the steering wheel. :D :D

I had a 50 model once. It was a 231ci six if I remember correctly, which had a unusual method of oiling the rod bearings.
The oil pump filled a little trough in the oil pan for each rod, and each rod had a little dipper on it that picked up oil each time it passed by it's trough. Crude, but it worked.

Must have been a farm truck and never saw any salty roads. Or it came from here in SoCal :-)
