Old BH, new look

Older SBH .44mag - serial # 82-67xxxxx - I picked up a couple of months ago. It was in excellent working condition, but had been neglected. Finish was rough, some rust. I had it Cerakoted by Texas Custom Guns in Alvin, Texas, in what Cerakote calls "stainless steel". The grips are walnut by Badger. I think it turned out pretty good, and I won't even show the "Before" pictures. Found a much newer SBH Bisley Hunter 2 weeks ago, before I got the older gun back, and thought of selling this one - but now I don't think so, think I'll keep it.

Looks good...I am just not sure about Cerakote...seen some hold up well, some, not so well.

Hopefully, yours will look good for a long time.

Willing to take a chance on the Cerakote, price was reasonable - even if it needed "renewing" at some point.

Considered selling this one, I jumped on it because I wanted a SBH with unfluted cylinder, and since it needed refinishing anyway, I chose a color that sorta resembled the SS I really wanted. Then I found - and bought - a stainless SBH Bisley Hunter! Of course, I like both, feel a real need to keep both!

Yes, the grips have a screw head showing on the other side, blind "nut" on this side. I have a set of regular Blackhawk grips from Badger that are the same way, I like it.

Larry - exactly my purpose in doing this. The Cerakote job was $150, and I think it was certainly worth that for the improvement in looks, and corrosion protection. Not exactly a "custom" work-over, but not a custom price, either.

Keep BOTH guns. I avoid "seller remorse" that way. If you sell it, the money will be used & forgotten. But, if you keep the gun, then you'll always have it to enjoy. But if you sell that nice gun, you'll likely regret it forever.

Contender, I agree. I was having sort of this same discussion with Mike Belim not long ago, he said to maintain that a firearm is not only a good investment, but one you can use to defend and feed your family as well as have fun with. Although he said he and I should stress "work with" over "have fun with"!

Sort of why I still have a Contender with AA plated frame and barrel (.30-30) and lovely wood grip and fore end I almost never shoot in the back of the safe!

I like the grips, what kind are they? I have a stainless super that destroys my knuckles and those look like they would help a lot!

The grips are from Badger Custom Grips, designed for just that reason. The old pistol had Pachmeyer rubber grips when I got it that do the same thing, but have much less "soul"! Drop David at Badger an email and explain you want the type he made me. I just heard from him this evening that he is almost finished with the lacewood grips he's making for my stainless Bisley Super Blackhawk Hunter - and I am really anxious to see those!

For jdr308 and others who asked about these grips, I got to shoot it this morning, and while I can't swear they helped with the recoil, they certainly did not make felt recoil worse! Very comfortable, no trigger guard rapping my knuckles or anything like that. Of course, I was shooting 305gr cast bullets at 1077 fps, so it wasn't real extreme anyway, but I was very happy with the "feel". Obviously I did not intend this gun to be used for rapid draws (with the scope), and most of my shots hunting will be from a stand with a rest. For that use, i think they will work fine.

Looks good. Lonnie does fine work. He built my 6.5 Creedmoor and I have an 11-87 he worked on as well. He builds some of the finest AR's anywhere.
That one there looks like a PIG STOMPIN' BEAST!! Go get ya some!!!

I had this SS Redhawk blasted with aluminum oxide because of some rub marks left by the same scope mount as is on the Blackhawk above....actually I like it better than the target grey finish that Ruger applies to some of their SRHs. 8)

I like your Redhawk! Agree the finish looks good, although I also like the Target Grey on my .480 - which I'm glad has the Ruger frame mount and rings.
