Oh these darned storms... Florida

I have a relatively young cousin that settled in Florida after she left the Coast Guard there.

She is in Tampa. She let us all know that she personally survived the storm, however many Tampa neighborhoods are wading in water, but there they had very little wind damage. Specifically, she said there's a restaurant in the area the locals frequent, open for business, and as she said, life goes on, even if you have to wade to get to an open restaurant, as stores or other food sources will be closed, and/or neighborhoods will have no power.

We didn't get anything really much mostly because the storm is moving to fast.

LOt of rain and some wind but NO storm damage out here in the Zephyrhills area of Florida; SADLY the low life "developers" are doing greater damage to the area and to the forests and trees.

My daughter and her family live in Florida. I haven't been able to get in touch with her yet. I'm praying they're far enough away from the worst of it and are all okay. Thoughts and prayers for everyone down there.

No major issues here in east Hillsborough County.

Folks close to Tampa Bay or on the coast got hammered with storm surge, from Bradenton all the way up to the eastern Apalachicola bay area.

My granddaughter just north of Orlando says “barely even raining here”.

The area that got hit especially more inland is one of the poorest parts of Florida. At one time it was the Meth Capital in the panhandle.

When I ran service calls over there, the locals would tell me where not to go, but not why. ;)

I lived in Pensacola for 4 years in the 70's, that's when all the Hurricanes went to Texas. :)

They're a little northeast of Pensacola. Got a little rain and some strong winds, but that's all. I guess comms down there are a mess right now.

Heck, Temple Terrace (a northeast 'burb of Tampa) flooded if we got an inch of rain in less than an hour all the way back in the '70s! Many of the areas in the Tampa Bay area are not only low-lying, but apparently a lot of the early developers weren't very flood-savvy, and filled the natural drainage paths and catch-basins (swamps) that allowed water a place to go.

In September 1979 my father-in-law called from Missouri he said "What are you guy's doing about the Hurricane". We answered "What Hurricane", a week later his pregnant daughter and I were in the eye of Hurricane Fredrick Cat 3, :)
