Offset ring mismatch

My son was given a tang safety ultralight in 243 by his grandparents. I ordered a offset front ring to move the compact Leopold scope back. The trouble is that the new front offset ring is higher than the rear ring. However it says on the ring page that the rear ring is that was sold with the gun is a 5B. But the front ring they list with the new offset sight is also a 5B and it is too low???
Also does anyone make a set or offset low rings?

The MKI 77 uses rings of two different heigths. The offset rings are Medium Offset 4Bs. Sounds like you also have a 4B on the rear. That would make the front too high.

I don't think the RLs or any other 77MKI issued with a high and a medium 5B-4B. The MKIs I have, includeing RLs issued with a 4B for the rear and a LOW 3B for the front.

Ruger doesn't make a low offest ring. If you want to use the 4B on the front you will need to use a HIGH 5B on the rear.

Not sure if Leupold or Burris make a set of offest rings for the 77. You would need a SET of rings as neither Burris nor Leupold rings are the same heigth as Ruger rings, lows etc don't measure the same from manufacturter to manufacturer.

The low Ruger rings are .330 from the base to the inside bottom of the ring and mediums are .440.

I thought the height difference from one ring to the next was .125, or 1/8", whichever comes first.

At least that's what I remember Stan telling us, but it WAS a long time ago.

Sugar: Don't know. I actualey had a few sets here on the desk and miked them when I posted. Just miked them again. I'll stick to my measurements. I might be a .001 out but I'm not off by a.010.

I do know for a fact that LOW doesn't meen the same thing from one manufacturer to the next.
