I recently bought a new model super blackhawk. The gun was cheap it had been cut off to the ejector rod housing length. I just assumed it was a 4 5/8" barrel come to find out it was a 5 1/2". I didn't know ruger used 2 different length erh's. My son had a bunch of ruger spare parts he had gathered up and brought them to use on this gun if needed. The bbl was cut but not crowned so we recrowned it using his brownell crowning tool to finish it. The bbl was larger than the tool so it wouldn't cut out to the very edge of the bbl. He has cut several bbl,s back and the tool worked fine and cut all the way past the edge. I guess my bbl is heavier than normal. I have a group of 4 5/8" rugers that the bbl ends at the end of the erh. Did ruger make a heavy bbled 44 with a long bbl I haven't noticed anyone talking about the different ones.
