Its a tough hike to get into, but the unique terrain justifies the effort.

Unique is I don't see any stream flowing off at the bottom of the fall like the water is going under ground or something, that's a real pretty place thanks for sharing your pictures I've never seen that part of the country.

Very picturesque location there! The disappearing creek is quite interesting.

My screen name is in reference to the lost river mountain range. The actual river, much like your creek, disappears into the lava, into a giant aquifer.

Thank you for posting the pics. :)

Correct! Big Laurel Creek disappears into a "sink" at the bottom of the falls. Nobody is sure where it comes back up.

Ran out of daylight this last trip so had to head back, but there are 2 more waterfalls located on down the holler. And in those cases the water bursts out of caves, then again disappears at the bottom of the falls. Plan on hitting it again earlier next week -its a 9 mile round trip hike to all of them - 4 1/2 miles down, then 4 1/2 miles of UP!

Interesting read on the area here...

Roland - Between your deer hunt which you recently posted on, and these incredible pictures, it's obvious
that you are smack dab in the middle of some truly gorgeous country. Wow! Just beautiful. Thanks for sharing

Thanks Dixie. There is just a lot of stuff to see here in middle TN, so me and the wife try to get out "exploring" about once a week.
