At a gun show this morning there was a No. 1 that didn't fit the pattern

Satin blue
26 in Ruger barrel, 243 Win
barrel band
AH foreend
No front sight
No rear sight dovetail in the rib

Maybe one of the distributor specials? Anyone know what it is?

Sounds like a #1B that someone replaced the forearm from an A or S and put a barrel band on the barrel. I've thought about doing that on a #1B I have in 30-06 but just never got around to doing it. I have never figures out whay the #1S was so dan hard to find. I ordered one though my LGS and the the distributor sent a B. When I conplained at my LGS, the bos called the distributor so I could complain. I was told that was the only one they could get do take it or send it back. I still have it. In all the time Ruger has brought out the #1, I have only seen five of the S model. One I turned down because I do not like the .338 Win. Mag, another was so beat up I'd have had to send it back to Ruger for a complete restoration. I bought the other three. All are in .300 Win. Mag. with two being Liberty models. The last one I bought was a black pad, again in .300 Win. mag. and it's my favorite Ruger #1. I love my Ruger #1s.

The serial number places it at 1977 production, when only the standard configurations were available.

Back then I doubt there were any "distributor specials", so just a pseudo custom made, altered, to the customers specs by about any GOOD riflesmith in those days,,,if only it could talk....you buy the gun, not the story, and if a "put together",, a sum of the total of the parts.............:rolleyes:;)

Mystery solved.

Ruger says it was shipped as a #1RSI in 270 Win.
