Next ammo shortage?

In the news they are talking about the war in Ukraine and how much ammo both sides are using:

“On an average day in Ukraine, the opposing armies lob as many as 30,000 shells at one another. That's more than 200,000 a week, almost 1 million a month—without including the bullets, land mines, hand grenades and other munitions being deployed as Vladimir Putin's invasion enters its second year.”

Apparently the Ukraine army can get ammo from NATO including USA, but Russia cannot.

Anyway, I hope this doesn’t impact the sports shooting markets. But next year is an election year too…

I saw on another board that the CMP will be selling ammo again soon. They will have .22, 30 cal carbine, and 30-06 for sale.
The problem will be at what cost?

Although the media reports may skew the picture, it doesn't seem that there's all that much rifle fire and grenade combat. More of a long range random lucky shot artillery engagement.
Regardless, the prices of ammo have reached a 'buy it now' level for the more common cartridges. Good quality 22lr @ 6-7 cents looks pretty darned good compared to what it was not that long ago. Even though I probably have around 20-25K left, I'm looking at freshening up the supply. Warmer weather will bring out more weekend/recreational shooters and that may effect price and availability.
9mm blasting ammo is pretty cheap right now-a good investment IMHO. .223/5.56 is getting cheaper by the day but don't wait until the news headlines light up to buy. I remember the last time when car loads of city dudes were sweeping the rural area gunshops clean in one pass.

I'd guess a bit over a dollar per round for .30 cal....maybe more if they drag around long before buying it themselves.

I hear ya...I just looked again today. Right now I can get any one of 4 different brands of brass-cased factory FMJ ammo in either 115 or 124 grain for $13 per box and get free shipping if I buy $200 worth or more...Thing is though, as recently as two weeks ago I would have also got same-day shipping, but due to the "recent increase in demand", it's presently taking my vendor 3 days just to get new orders processed and out the door.....just sayin'.

No offense, but I don't see any "conspiracy" going on here....What I do see is a falling (if not outright failing) dollar, political uncertainty, a stressed-out society, and an ammo industry that is just now getting somewhat caught up on production. So yeah, IMNSHO, anyone who has need for ammo would be well served to get some while they can. Plus, it ain't likely to get cheaper no matter what.

Nothing is ever going to get cheaper. The news this morning is Saudi and other Oil producers are cutting back production from now until at least the end of this year. That means the price of everything goes up again.

Fixing to have to buy 500 rounds of 9mm and have it shipped to a friend who is hosting some training for us...... the reason is I'm flying to his place and can't carry/check that much ammo... will have about 20 rounds of 357sig in with two pistols to check in with.

I went to our local Sportsman Warehouse retail store today and picked up 500 rounds of Aguila 22LR for $21.99 for each 250 round box and 100 rounds of CCI 22 short for $14.99. Also picked up my daughter a 50 round box of brass cased CCI Blazer 9mm for $16.99. Not great prices, but glad to it it. Their shelves were full of everything but 38 special and 357 mag. They had about 4 brands of 38 special in 50 round boxes and 1 brand of 357 mag in 20 round boxes. They must have had 2 dozen brands of 9mm. The thing I wanted most was no.11 percussion caps.

Yep, I bought what I needed years ago, I shoot enough to stay qualified. Most of what I shoot is straight walled revolver rounds that I reload. I have enough components to last me at least 5 years.
