I have wanting a Craftsman top chest for some time now. For the last couple weeks I started getting pop up ads for the box I wanted, a 26 X 16, 5 drawers HD.

I stopped by local Sears to place an order for the online 40% off price with expected delivery in mid February. I was surprised to see they had that box on the floor at an even lower price AND today only 10% off that! If I wanted it now, I could take the floor model. So in less than 5 minutes, the young man placed the box in the back of the truck.

So backed the truck to the shop door, sort of cleared a path, and cleared of the lower box where I wanted it. Went to pick it up and that thing was HEAVY. I didn't want to wait for help, so I caught it on belt buckle and got to the lower box, went to lift it up more and even with my added 50 pounds overweight, I toppled over! Landed on box, not hurting myself, but when I wrestled it on the lower box, it rocks about ¼" on one corner.

now, do I just shim that corner, or try to bang it back square?

Just overload it with tools the weight will straighten it back out. Or put some weight in it and gently "drop" it onto a flat concrete floor from a few inches. Should straighten right out.

I need another "mid chest" to add to my Craftsman tool chest set up. When they had them before Christmas, there were no deals to be had. Waited til after Christmas, and now not only are there no deals, there is no availability. Sears, Ace, And K-Mart, all three carry this Craftsman mid-chest, but all three are out of stock.

I have a 'mid' and now I need a short step ladder to get into the very top of the top box. Lousy prior planning on my part.

I have wondered if adding a 2nd mid-chest would make it all too high. I'm desperate, and just plain out of room for stuff.

I had the same problem! Better to go wider on than taller!

I've been grabbing used tool chests over last season and have 2 lowers, 1 mid and 3 uppers waiting for me to " get the back room organized".
A few Craftsman and others.
If it was me I'd carefully drop that box on the other corner if the drawers bind at all.
If they operate fine , the weight idea may be enough.

the drawers work fine, just that little rock. Screws for attaching the top to the mid were not included though and the instructions don't show that either. transferred all sockets to the lower drawers, but that alone hasn't helped

I plan to try to set it on concrete, load it moderately, then "drop" sides and see what happens.

the sad part of this episode is my loss of ability. while I was OK, after fall and sitting box on , I would not think about getting it back off without help.

Then several hours latter, "IT" has hit me hard. Not sure if it is from falling or over excersion of athrophic muscles :(

Can you drill screw holes to attach top to mid box? You might be able to draw the top box down flat....

I have a large Matco top box,and when I need to move it,I take all of the drawers out of it.Makes it so much easier, and all you have to do to remove them is pop the clips on the rails out.

Lucked out! Few years back I bought an upper and lower tool chest at a yard sale.
MAC with the key no lees. 200 bucks and help loading it! I sold the top for what I paid
put my Craftsman top on top of the MAC. Happy camper. ps

UPDATE...

I took the drawers out in prep for taking it off the middle/bottom chests.

I then realized I could measure the diagonal of the front opening. it showed they differed by nearly an inch (~27 to 28"). I took a small turnbuckle and a piece of PVC pipe and pushed the short diagonal till the box sat flat. the diagonals were then both 27 1/2".

A slightly buckle at one corner is now just noticable, BUT it no longer rocks!

Now if the soreness in my ribs would just go away.
