Ruger sent me their new SR22 Pistol for T&E review. It’s a DA/SA blowback operated autoloader chambered in the .22 Long Rifle cartridge.
SR22-1.jpg

The pistol is a fixed barrel design and features an anodized aluminum slide and polymer frame.

At the range CCI and Federal ammunition was accumulated for the test.

50% sized B-27 Silhouette
Head group is 10 rounds of Federal at 3 yards, offhand.
SR22-34.jpg

All torso groups are 10 rounds at 7 yards, offhand.
Thorax: CCI Mini-Mag; X : CCI Stinger

5 round group of Fed. fired supported at 15 yards.

Everything worked and functions properly, like a quality auto-pistol should.

deadduck357,
Thank you for your review. Please post detailede pics of the SR22 disassembled. Thanks, Hank

What material are the trigger and front sight made of? Pics from Ruger make them look like plastic?

I think the front sight is a poly. The trigger is some type of metal, not sure which.

Thanks for the quick reply. The sight isn't as important as the trigger, so that makes me feel a little better.

its really a well made little rimfire pistol.

I hope so, I look forward to picking one up once I get some extra funds together. Thank you for the thorough review.

Does the removeable barrel suggest that Ruger will be offering extra barrels as an option? If the breech block is seperate then the cost of a matching new slide should be minimal.

Extra .22 LR barrels, a threaded one is in the works.

Your welcome. Am willing to bet you'll be pleased when you get one.

When I first saw pics of this pistol, I said 'not for me'. I got to handle one this weekend at the Ruger booth at the Dallas Safari Club Convention. It is much smaller than I expected, and a really great looking little gun. It is now on my want list. Not a tacti-cool guy, but this is one neat little gun.

I was at the local GS today and one just came in. The owner showed it to me and let me handle it. It felt and looked great, just like a Ruger should. I just wish I had extra funds to buy one.

The Bersa Thunder 22 is the best 22 I have ever owned...including the vaunted Beretta 87BB. The Bersa takes Stingers & Yellowjackets with ease. I like it so much, I bought 2 more of them. In fact it is recommended in the owners manual to use hyper velocity ammunition.

Thanks.

I don't think anyone makes a 22 as good as the Bersa thunder 22 but I'm holding out hope.

A couple more SR22 reviews.

I really need another .22 semi-auto so my wife can shoot it. She doesn't like the one I have now.

I am definitely considering this one. Saving up my $$.

I got to handle the SR22P at my local shop last night. I really like the solid feeling of this little pistol. Seems very well made. We struggled, but were finally able to get the small grip off and put the large grip on; the large felt much better.

As an aside, they also had a S&W M&P22 next to the SR22P. I supposed if I really wanted to train with a .22 just like my carry piece, the Smith would be the better choice, but it sure did not feel as solid as the Ruger. For its size (HUGE), the Smith was very light, and therefore did not feel as solid.

My .02.

I bought one of these last week. I took it from the store to the range and put 250 rounds through it. (federal bulk). I had 7 failures to feed. I noticed the barrel was sloppy loose and wondered if this was by design. I took it home and reviewed the barrel attachment instructions. The allen wrench is 9/64 not 3/32 as they describe on page 25. I noticed the barrel locating pin is a hardened small round pin which fits into a soft square slot in the stainless barrel. The slot of the barrel was deforming. I called Ruger, service, who had a technician call me back. The tech said the barrel was supposed to have 1/16" play and the metal deformation was expected. I took it back to the range and fire another 200 rounds. The barrel would become sloppy loose after 30-40 rounds and would have to be tightened back to specifications. I brought a wrench but no thread locker. I had 7 failures to eject the spent cartridge. Back at the house I inspected the barrel slot that the locating pin lives in and found the damage was worse.
Ruger has asked for the pistol back so they can fix it.
My local gun store has offered to take it back and I'm discouraged to the point of taking them up on their offer.
The gun is a lively shooter and I really like some of its full size gun features.
Unfortunately I don't think Rugers round peg, square hole technology will prove durable.
Bottom line is I need a .22 pistol that will be rugged and shoot everything I feed it. That's why I bought a Ruger.
When did the lawyers and accountants take over?
I would have spent more for a better product.

No way does my barrel have ANY play at all, it's TIGHT onto the frame and doesn't move at all, even during shooting. Someone might have cross-threaded the screw into the barrel when installing it and you just got a bad one. I'm sure when you get it back you'll fall in love with it.

Buy a MKIII if you want something rugged that will shoot anything you feed it. The Mk series have been doing just that for 60 years or so.....

handled one my brother got in for a customer last night. Not too impressed. The grip feels too slim and trigger reach is weird. Just couldn't get a good comfortable grip on it. Upon opening the box, the extra magazine had disassembled itself at some point to that had to be put back together. Didn't seem to ant to stay together well afterwards either - it sprung apart again. Trigger...typical heavy, really heavy Ruger. Just not something I'd be too excited about myself. This specimin was serial -10xxx

Just received mine the other day. Went out and shot over 200 rounds of a variety of ammo including Walmart bulk and did NOT have one failure. The quality of this gun is exceptional. Ruger has a treasure with this 22.ca. By the way, I was shooting at 15 yds and nailing the small shoot and glow target.
