New SP101 question

I purchased a 2.25" SP101 DAO yesterday. I noticed that the cylinder seems to drag along the frame whenever it's open. Is this normal? Both revolvers I had to choose from did the same thing. It just doesn't seem normal.

Also, would a spring swap be enough to reduce the tremendously heavy trigger pull? I love the revolver, and it is accurate, but it is not easy to shoot. I am definitely going to have the trigger smoothed because the edges are too sharp and caused a blister on my finger. I am also going to get the cylinder chamfered.

Any suggestions for modifications? (Nothing too extreme, because this is going to be one of my backup guns when I'm on duty and our policy won't allow me to have anything major done to it.)

you got a plan , it was my plan also on my GPs , springs , recontour trigger , & I did shim the hammers& triggers.

Maybe a more visible front site?????

There is a button on the side of the frame that keeps the cylinder from coming off the crane when it is open. The edge of the cylinder scrapes against that a little button. There is no doubt that a factory new gun is going to need a little work to get it smoothed-out. First a through de-burring with a fine stone or some 400 grit sandpaper then a through cleaning. If you are not comfortable taking the major assemblies apart (video on Ruger website) you can remove the grips and soak the whole gun in mineral spirits or kerosene. Work the action to get the gunk out. Drain and let dry, then oil the gun and then start the break-in. You may want to put some reduced power springs for the break-in or wait a while. Dry firing will help to loosen the gun up. Shoot it and dry fire it until it loosens up and re-evaluate for springs. Consider a gunsmith for an action and trigger job. :D :D
