New semi- auto Shotgun

It would be less expensive to make then a red label. We should know next week.

Now I'm pumped....been expecting a Semi or Pump from Ruger for quite some time now. This could be a Home Run for them if it's executed properly.

No matter what part of the market they go after, it's going to be an uphill battle against brands that are well-established. They will need to offer one heck of a gun for the price to make a go of it.

Figured this was coming. Think it will be an extension of the American line. Soon Ruger is going to cover all the basics with no nonsense affordable products. Seems like the most logical market to cater to. The cash cow that was high capacity fantastic plastic tactical is about dead.

I am planning to buy a 12GA semi-auto this coming year. Assuming that the rumor pans-out, perhaps the Ruger will be made of metal 'n wood......if not, it'll be a used 1100 for me.

I know this has been in design for a few years now. Talked with a big chair person quite some time ago about it and who they brought in to get a couple shot gun designs going. Did I say a couple??? ;) Hmmm, just one of those things I was asked to keep a bit quiet. Cat's out now.

Hopefully we will hear about it at shot show even if its just a drawing with photos.

When I bought my shotgun last year I thought about a semi-auto then quickly dismissed it. I can pump fast enough to keep a firing pace that is comfortable - I don't need to destroy a shoulder for 7 shots before reloading a tube. Magazine fed semi-auto rifles make a great deal of sense but not shotguns, IMHO. And the cost difference, especially considering the low priced versions Remington (H&R) and Mossberg (Maverick) make, is tremendous.

If the new auto shotgun has the virtues of the rest of the "American line," it will be a success.

That said, I don't shoot jamamatics of any kind any more except my Colt Woodsman. Firepower is cheaper than skill, but less satisfying.

I heard that some Mossberg 500s will fire if you keep the trigger pulled while racking it. Even saw a video of that happening. That's an auto-fire shotgun. :P

My old (ca 1963) Ithaca M37 will do the same thing and it was a common feature in the past. The Winchester M12 would also do it. Most modern pump shotguns have a disconnector to prevent this but many older ones didn't. The Mossberg 500 won't do it unless someone removed the disconnector as it has one from the factory.
