I'm setting up my new RPR Custom for a SE Vortex scope using Vortex rings and not exactly sure where to set the level on the gun. Says nothing in the manual. My first thought is the top of the Pic rail. To level the scope I'm using a laser level on a wall set about 30' away. Where is the level plain on this gun?

I'd go with the top surface of the upper receiver rail. An 'eyeball close' is good enough for most purposes. Unless you plan on shooting over 500 yards and/or depending on the scope's vertical adjustments for precision, an absolute level is not necessary.

I have leveled on the rail and level the crosshair parallel with it. Mostly I eyeball my hunting rifles. Bench shooting I put a plum bob on green string, hang it on the garage door over a white poster board with a 90 degree x in red. Center verticle line aligned with string..At the other end of the house, align the bore center on the center line, the center x in the scope to the center line, tilt the rifle and rotate the cross hair to the x on poster board. Could just level the poster board x too and not use a plumb bob.

I am guessing this is not your first scope mounting job. If so, go to a gunshop and learn the tricks. But, Level the rifle by the rail. Have it in a tight gun mount. Put a level on the scope cap, not the best. Better is take cap off and level on the threaded base. Double check with eyes and lines on wall etc. Something you make level or know is level. If you start shooting PRC matches have guys in the club help for better long-range alinement.

Funny story just popped into my head: 50 something years ago when scopes were just coming into use around here, a guy brought me a rifle with scope mounted crosshairs in an X pattern. He said he'd been trying to get it zeroed but it was too confusing. I could barely contain myself but got him and the rifle squared up and zeroed.
