New Model Single-Six question

Looking at the New Model Single-Six convertibles on the website there are a couple that look like the current offering of the Vaquero. In the picture the hammer looks like the rest of the single-sixes. But is the rest of it like a vaquero? I have not handled a single action ruger for a long time and can not really remember what the size differences are.

The SS that looks like a Vaquero or New Vaquero is just a smaller version of the Vaquero style frame like the Single Six is a smaller version of the Blackhawk style frame. If you like Vaqueros don't go pick one up if you don't have money in your pocket

I'd bet that the grip frame is NOT steel like a New Vaquero's grip frame.

:shock: Wow Thanks Flatgate I wouldn't know where to begin about adding a picture like that. The hammer doesn't look quite like a vaquero either. Is the grip the same size as the blackhawk or smaller? I started out with a blued single six and then a 357 9mm blackhawk. Then moved into double action revolvers both Ruger and Smith & Wesson. Then fell into becoming a bottom feeder user. :shock: So I really don't remember the sizes.

I've only handled the birds heads so can't say what the grip frame on the plow handles are.

Yes, the hammer does indeed look like a Vaquero, however it's a Single-Six and they have smaller "cylinder frames" and smaller hammers. Ah, but you've probably been looking at the New Vaquero and it has an extended hammer spur ala Colt SAA.

The grip frame exhibits a small "flair" along the backstrap. A dead giveaway that it's a XR3-RED. I would also presume it is fitted with Ruger's Lock.

I bought a SS adjustable sight single-six convertible single-six last summer. One of the first things that I noticed was that the grips were fuller than those on my 50th .44 and my FT SS .44 Special. There may be a grip swap in the future? Hope they fit without fitting (much anyway). jack

Standard NM Single Sixes have always sported the larger XR3 Red grips of the NM Blackhawk and large frame Vaquero--regardless of whether steel (Vaqueros) or aluminum.(BHs). It would be interesting to know if this Vaquerito style .22 is steel like its .32 brethren, or aluminum like adjustable sight SSs.

They will not fit. The Flattops and New Vaqueros have the smaller and slightly differently shaped XR3 (no Red) grips. What you're also noticing re the fullness is the gripframe, backstrap, etc of the XR3 Red's gripframe is wider than the FTs and NVs.
