I inherited a Ruger .22cal New Model Single Six revolver. Serial number indicates it was produced 1981. It is a steel blued frame with a stainless steel cyclinder. The cyclinder is marked ".22 WIN. MAGNUM CAL." I tried to research this model but I can't find any reference to a blue frame with stainless steel cyclinder. Does anyone know if this a factory produced pistol or did someone fit this steel blue pistol with cyclinder for a different gun? Also, Ruger manual states that only .22 WMR cartridges can be used as the cylinder is not fluted and will not fire any other .22 cartridge safety. Any thoughts on this issue? Thanks for your help.

That is not the orginal cylinder. Someone replaced the long lost lr and magnum cylinders with a stainless one. I would use it if it locks up and shoots ok but with magnum ammo only. You can probably find a lr cylinder that will work in the classifieds.

Does it look like this? I bought the Mag cylinder online and fit it to my SS.
There might be 3 numbers on the front of the cylinder -- If original to the SS, they would match the last 3 numbers of your SS's serial # ---

Thanks for your replies and info. I thought someone must have replaced the cylinder. My gun looks like the picture from Larry except for Pachmayr Presentation Grip (black rubber). I have not live fired the SS yet. It dry fires okay. The cylinder fits and rotates solidly. Does not appear the cylinder was fitted to the SS. Serial numbers do not match. Thanks for your replies.
