Sigh- the gun didn't come out as good as intended, but better than nothing. How do you find out the year of manufacture? I went to the Ruger website but couldn't find anything to click or enter the serial number? On the left hand side of the gun just above the grip and to the front is a type of dappling that I am not used to seeing. What do I have, besides a shooter. OK, OK maybe I like this SA just a lot.

You peppered that puppy! :) Got yourself a good shooter there gramps. To find the year of your revolver:
- locate the 5 drop-down menu selections at the top of the webpage.

- Under "Customer Service", the 2nd selection is "Instruction Manuals & Product History". Use that one to open a new page.

- There will be 4 selections - The bottom selection is "Revolver Instruction Manuals & Product History.

- To the right of that you will see "Show All". That is the link to open the selection.

- When you click "Show All", a whole list of Ruger's revolvers will open up...

- You'll want to look at "New Model Blackhawk - .357 Mag (includes Bisley Models and 50th Anniversary Model)"... Click that link and it'll open up a SN list in a new window.

That's all there is to it! :D

Post the serial number here, we can help! It's a BKH-36 model. And that is a plum-purdy loading gate!
(You can XX out the last two digits of the number & we can still give ya the year of shipment.)
BTW; you did ok there!

According to the Ruger site it was made in 1980. The bore is pristine, but looks like it rattled around in someone's truck from the dings in the metal on the trigger guard and plunger guard. The trigger guard is awful small in my opinion, but hey it works. I'll probably use this one for my hunting.
I really like the look of antler. I may have to visit Sacks store.

Gramps...

Sounds like yours rattled around under someone's seat! She's got a good home now though and the Blackhawks are nearly indestructable. It doesn't look bad in the photos... And besides... I've seen (and own) some pretty ugly weapons that are fine shooters!

Case in point - This one ('66 BKH-36 custom) has been in my care since 1967... She's not as purdy as she used to be, but she can still take the cojones off a termite!

Contender I'll take that as an order just as soon as I replenish
my hand loads! I need more 158 gr lswc. I'll see if one of the LGS
can accomadate me. I plan to shoot more at 25 & 50 yds.
